Rock musician's "just do it" YouTube rant on illegal downloading is funny and makes the point--illegal downloading is stealing.

If I knew I'd get away with it, and it were as easy as stealing music then I would. I can't just push a button and steal a lexus.

One thing's for sure...if CDs simply "went away", and 128k and 256k downloads no longer had anything to compare to sonically, the whole concept of "lossy vs. lossless" takes on a completely new dynamic. After all, what would "lossless" be anymore, in this brave new world? And so again, in the name of convenience, we accept our own dumbing down. But HEY, we can have our media so bloody fast, who cares? Right?

Here's an idea. I don't watch MTV. Let me pay less for your album since I don't watch high budget music videos. Or how about 2 less stripper ****** on stage and lower ticket and t-shirt prices. No, that will never happen. This dumb schmuck is probably running around telling us all we have to donate to some pet causes like 'Free Tibet' and stuff like that.

Hey, I agree. Don't steal because you think you're just the drop in a bucket - that still doesn't make it right. It just makes him look dumber running around in those stupid fur coats with a couple of gold diggers under his arms. It's akin to Latrell Sprewell turning down a $17 million contract because "he has a family to feed".

Another idea - give it away for free yourself. People will respect you more and anything you sell won't be posted out of respect. Look at music sharers like Phish and the Dead. You can find plenty of their shows floating around, but you rarely see any of their officially released content up for illegal grabs. If their content is posted, it's usually taken down rather quickly.

Why is it that all of the bands and people against illegal downloading produce music you wouldn't want to listen to anyway?
