The start-up's tech works like Google's PageRank for Web sites, but it aims to tap your friendships to spread "social banner" display ads.

Oh God. Winners-Losers. Zero-sum games. Endless cutthroat competition. Now even friendship will be a friggin' contest. Ugh.

I agree, people who engage in this might end up losing their trust with their friends.

I struggle to see how this will do anything but alienate people from the advertisers. Brands are better off focusing on finding a way to deliver a branded utility that provides a service or value, rather than increasingly invade individual privacy. I think there is a better way:

This will obviously fail.

This moron is peddling a banner ad with the tawdry gimmick of referencing your friends' names, activity and interests.

Why don't these guys realize they have to create actual incremental value for people to care about their stupid advertising? How sad.

I'm not sure I like this idea. I want my friends to go to my site and buy from me because they know and trust me not because a banner pops up in their face all the time. I think it's going to upset people and backfire on the advertisers.

This is again trying to fit a public service with Private expectations. Round holes, Square pegs .. 'If it doesn't fit--you must acquit!
