Comments on: Problems delay Firefox 3 launch

Web site problems hold up the launch of the Firefox 3 browser, but the inauspicious start to the attempt to set a download record is offset by a furious download pace.

What happens when you ask for people to commit to downloading your software, register over 1 million "pledges", then dare all of them to hit your servers simultaneously? <SCREECH_SOUND> C-R-A-S-H-! </SCREECH_SOUND> This may go down not as a world record for number of downloads, but rather go down as the world record for under-planning.

I COMPLETELY agree with your comment. Mozilla should be ashamed of itself. I finally got onto the Download Firefox 3 page at 2 PM EST and then it took 33 minutes to download over a high-speed connection. And then, guess what! It was Firefox 3 Beta 5, NOT Firefox 3!!! How ridiculous is that? Then I tried downloading it off of Cnet, and it was ALSO Beta 5!!!

It's kind of up althought the front page hasn't been updated:

This will work. Not sure if it affects their download count though.

Hi, CNET! The mozilla.org site says "Firefox 3" but it is still linking to 2.0.0.14, as you can see if you look where it says "Free Download 2.0.0.14" right below "Firefox 3".

Using the FTP won't count toward the goal. So don't use it. The site still doesn't seem to be up yet. Give it a little more time.

lol.. I was almost worried why I could only see 2.0.0.14 while you are getting version 3. Mozilla should have planned it better for such a long waited upgrade.

Looks like somebody had too many beers at the pre-download party and forgot to change the Firefox 2 file to Firefox 3. The rest of the site looks great though...

Anyone IE developer/user who thinks other browsers don't matter now knows better. By the end of this year, 1 out of every 3 surfers will NOT be using IE.

Are you really updated this page at 11:17 p.m. of today?

Does Firefox include a time traveler in the new version?

From: http://developer.mozilla.org/devnews/index.php/2008/06/17/how-to-get-firefox-3/

Please DO NOT ?check for updates? from within Firefox 2 as we are not yet offering it as an update and this does not count toward the record.

Thanks to everyone for participating in setting a new world record!
