Haha at this point in time, i don't know if they are considered Next Gen platforms. The 360 has been out for 3 years and PS3 for 2 years. I would call them current gen.

Fifty dollars can be a significant amount for many. Price cut or not, I belive these consoles are still worth their current retail values.

With microsoft's big holiday season coming up, the inevitable announcement of at least one (if not two or three if you count Halo Wars) Halo games at E3 in July, and the price cut Microsoft looks to take back the momentum and likely keep it through 08 and to Halo 4's '09 release date. Of course I'm speculating on Halo 4 (or Halo: Marathon, whatever they'll call it) coming out in 09, but I think they'll need to.

Stepyourgameup, Very classy there buddy! What are you 12? Aside from that assanine comment, a price cut would be a very good thing. I have been holding off on a 360 or PS3 until they do come down because of other more important expenses. (i.e. rent, utilities, food)

O.K. I have those real important expenses too, but 50 bucks?? I mean you really can't come up with 50 bucks to jump into the next generation??? Even with our crappy economy today.... 50 bucks?? I agree with gadget, if you're spending 299$ for a game console, I don't think another 50 bucks is going to break the bank. If you don't have an extra 50 bucks for the pre-price drop 360, you are in too much of a financial hardship any way and shouldn't even be considering buying any game console.

@Gadgetguy: Do you know anything about the economy? By going over your writings I would say you are 12 therefore, no you dont know anything about the economy. Based on what I know from a few college courses, the economy is better than it has ever been (Not as good as a year ago). I do not expect a sixth grader to understand that. Gas does not run the economy, nor does your childish opinion.

@Almost everyone else: $50 is $50, I do not care what your budget is. If you go to a store and see a cake that you want, but you know that it is going to be $5 cheeper in an hour, what do you do? The financally secure section of america would wait and buy it later. The portion of america that have $500,000 loans out on their houses at 15%, and are in serious financial trouble will say "Its only $5, whats the difference?". How do you think the people who waited for the cake became financally secure? They use smarts. They go to college, make $100k a year, and still cut out coupons. Why? Because they are smart. Again @ gadgetguy (@ this type of American), If you think the economy is so poor, it is your fault. You are the type of people that get loans you cant pay off, you never wait for anything to go on sale, you dont even check the prices when buying food, you go to the gas station that is selling gas 10 cents more than the one on the other side of the street, you are the ones who ends up getting all your stuff repo'd. You are the one who has nothing when you want to retire. You are the one who lives off your kids, even though they dont have any money because they never had parents to tell them how to handle money.

But if you took a few courses, well, how did you pay for them? Out of pocket, with you're parents money, or with a loan that you're slowly paying off with interest in the vain hope that the Business degree you're getting is somehow different than the other 10,000 kids in your graduating class who are smarter and less obnoxious than you.

Bandon, why do you think everyone is 12? Just because we disagree with you, doesn't mean we're childish. You're actually acting more like a 12 y/o calling people names. By your rationale, waiting for something to be cheaper isn't necessary, its just smarter, then you need to wait until the Xbox 720 comes out before you consider buying a 360 since by then it'll only be $99. Or better yet, wait for it to be flea market fodder and pay 20 bucks. Did you wait until fiscal year 2008 to buy an atari 2600 cause you can get it for 5 bucks? Are you about to updgrade to a NES? Or are you waiting for that to drop in price, too?

You are right about how I probably shouldnt have called him 12, but I was just trying to get my point across to him that he shouldnt be one to talk with his understanding of the economy. And I admit I did get a little off topic with some of it. If we are just on the topic of the price drop I was more or less just saying that $50 is a large drop, and any price drop large or small, should not be insulted. People should not think "its only $50" because that kind of thought will get people into the bad situations that people are currently in. Sorry if I was a little vague in spots about what I meant.

No problem. Its funny how this quite harmless article ended up turning into such a heated economy debate with the insults flying. I read all the posts and replies and I think the bottom line is that $50 may end up being what some people need to jump on when other people may still not be able to afford it. But "current gen" gaming is an exensive endeavor regardless and if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. I proabably can't afford it (Air Force wages, single income family of 5,) but I still manage to find ways to pay for it all. You just come off slightly as a know-it-all and a bit arrogant and that can turn a lot of people off (even if it is just that you have a bit more knowledge in those areas and are confident in your understanding of it).

@icn1983: Why thank you so much for your quick response. I am not really sure what you are getting at here, so please elaborate if my answer does not suit your needs. I payed cash for my first two years of college but had to take out a loan considering schooling costs a fortune, although I am not sure why that concerns you. College however is not a toy, it is an investment for your future. Loans for classes are quite affordable in present day, as long as you know that you will pay it off. I advise anyone to spend as much as needed for post high school education because it is the best thing you can do to secure a good future. Also, I do not recall saying that there are not people smarter/financially smarter than me, but only that there are people with not as much knowledge as they should have about money and such. Example: Gadgetguy. These people are what is wrong with America. If I did not make myself clear enough feel free to comment back and I will try to answer.

All I was saying is that if $50 is THAT big a deal to you then you probably don't need to buy a PS3 or 360. Now if you are just now thinking of buying one and you see this article then yeah by all means wait for the price drop. But if you have had your eye on one for awhile now and you just can't spare the extra change then spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

I agree. If you were waiting for a $50 price drop to buy a $400 or $500 PS3, then that's somewhat ridiculous. To claim the $50 drop spurred them to go out and buy one immediately is moronic. The 360 is a little different story since it's cheaper to begin with.

And to Brandon33: Go back to school bud. Any beginners economics class will teach you that time IS a commodity. If you waited around for an hour for a cake to cost $5 less, you just got "paid" $5 an hour. The only way that is reasonable is if you don't value your time at all or you already get paid less than $5 hr in your current career.

There are other factors. According for that theory to work of me losing money because of the time spent waiting, I would have to sit on a chair staring at the cake for an hour. Just because I am waiting for a cake doesnt mean I have nothing to do. Good try though :)

For someone who doesn't necessarily have the financial resources to buy a next-gen console right away, 50 extra dollars can be a blessing, if only to use it to buy an extra game. While I can't speak for everyone else, seeing as I don't own a next-gen system and my life hasn't come to an end, I feel that waiting an extra couple of months for the price drop is not a bad idea, especially when having to explain expenses to your wife.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I personally bought a 360 at launch, but my wife knows that, that are of my life she HAS to accept, and she knew that from the start. But she wasn't too happy about it. The comment you made about your life not coming to an end was hilarious.

Waiting for a $50 price cut doesn't really make sense. At $100 dollars it does. (I'm based in the UK so we pay higher for everything anyway)

When one consisers the cost of an HDTV ,the display of which makes the jump to next gen truly worthwhile, plus the cost of a game(s) and other peripherals, $50 acounts for about 5% or less of the total setup. For a gamer, that is not enough of a percentage to put one off making the purchase, even if it does mean tightening the belt for the month. If you disagree, then It would have to be said that you are more of a casual player.

None of you know $h!t about anything. The economy is taking a nice little nose dive thanks to the inflated gas prices. Of course the only people really hurt by this is the middle to lower class which there are a whole lot more of than any of the other classes. Some of us have to save that $50 to put gas in the car because we can't all rely on our parents for money. That economic stimulus check you got was to stimulate the economy not the video gaming industry.
