Comments on: The iPhone name game: 2G, 3G, or 2.0?

Will the next iPhone be known as "2G" (second-generation) or "3G" (for its high-speed wireless)? It all depends upon whom you ask.

I think it should just be iPhone2 - easy enough, no mention of 'G' to throw people off

Like most Apple products, unless the new device is very different to its previous version, it will not be given a new category i.e. a new name.

So it'll still be "iPhone", assuming the current one will be scrapped by Apple.

Looks like its going to be 3G iPhone. Check out this company www.robosoftin.com. They are into providing product development services and in their recent press release they have already mentioned it as 3G iPhone.

This is easy. As clemsonbobby said.... three times.... we should call it the iPhone 2 (or, yes, technically the 1.5) but for eBay purposes, the iPhone 2. 2.0 would be wrong since 2.0 is only a software and should NOT be confused with the model. Is a Pentium 4 processor in a 20th Generation IBM called an IBM 4? NO!!!!

So that's silly to think of calling it a 2.0 It will be the iPhone 2 running on the 3G network with software update 2.0. Eventually, they will come out with software update 2.1 and 2.1.1 and 2.1.9 and so on and so on, and as the article says the current verison of the phone will also be able to update to the 2.0 software.

Again as far as the network, it's the 3G network. I don't see why that would be included in the name. Samsung Sync and LG Trax & Moto Razr all run on the 3G network, and 3G is nowhere to be found in the names of those respective phones.

Regardless of what it is called, I just hope the rumors of the price drop are at least semi-accurate. I doubt they will be $199, because then everyone will have one, (like the Razr) but I think a $100 drop coupled with the 3G network's speed would be enough to push me into a purchase of the 8GB model. We shall see next week. And don't count on a June 9 release. I think the 1-year anniversary will be the lauch date. Ka-boooooom!!!!

The Iphone w/ the 3G capability will keep its same name, "IPhone"

Mac has never changed names with different series, just new generation of the model...

I dont even know why this is hard to figure out??????????????????
