I am experiencing some of the problems mentioned in this post like trying to upload a blog post from Windows Live Writer to my Windows Live Space. I keep getting Remote connection errors and Network I/O gibberish I can't make any sense of.

Interesting presentation. Google (and the other web companies developing similar tools)seem to be admitting that a robust desktop/laptop experience is important and that, depite all the hype by traditional and online media, web-only applications and services can only do so much. Clearly, the integration of desktop applications, services/data delivered via the internet, and web applications (applications where the core functionality is run on a server connected to the net) is where the compute experience is headed. Microsoft comes at this from the desktop; whereas google/yahoo approach the problem from the web side.
