And if this program spoofs a legitimate HTTP user-agent will also wreak havoc on log-based website analytics if it becomes popular. This is another example of legitimate marketers being threatened and impacted by a conflict they are not a part of (similar to the impact of the spam wars on legitimate email marketing).

Doesn't any concerns about web tracking go away if you clean out your cookies and/or use a product like CCleaner every once in awhile?

djr1904: This is at the ISP level. Some ISPs are now serving up ads.

If you delete your cookies after each browsing session, the trackers can base their targeted ads only on the sites you visit in the current session, I believe.--Dennis

Not true. They are not looking at your cookies, they are looking at the packets passing through your computer. The only way to get around this is to VPN to a different computer and surf from it or to generate lots of noise, making the data useless.
