Hmmmm... AT&T-Microsoft DSL?!? That'll be interesting
by Stevo February 1, 2008 10:35 AM PST
Gosh, I'll feel so fortunate knowing that my DSL service will be potentially enhanced by all the technological breakthroughs that have have Vista such a commercial and critical success (cough).
Seriously though, my thought on the offer price is that Microsoft wanted to make it so attractive to Yahoo! shareholders that they'd have to be crazy not to at least consider the financial benefit of the offer. Considering Jerry's proposed layoffs, and Microsoft's carefully positioned paragraph about 'significant retention packages' for many employees, they definitely wanted to make it as palatable to public opinion as well. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Have an interesting weekend, everyone.

Google

Google is a company with a business intelligence and a true social conscience. Google does good by itself as a business, consumers by offering many free, innovative services and the global public as a whole. Call me a Google fanboy -- I don't care. So, why am I talking about Google after reading this letter by Microsoft to Yahoo? Only because I wish that Google were able to purchase Yahoo instead of Microsoft. And, if Microsoft takes over Yahoo, the new venture will still be a distant #2 in more ways than one. Good luck to the Yahoo employs that survive the upcoming layoffs and this proposed buyout.

..and they'll be able to take both of them on, with the help of their friends at Canonical, Novell, RedHat, et cetera.

I don't use yahoo for anything anyway. Never really have. To me, this just means two IM protocols are about to converge. As long as pidgin can keep up, I'm indifferent.
