Web sites launch all the time, but they also shut their doors. We highlight 15 that bit the dust this year.
Let the debate begin: Was the iPhone more important than iTunes? Was anything bigger than Google finding a great business model? CNET offers its list of the 10 most important stories of the '00s.

Contrast that to iPod. First, I had to download iTunes which promptly broke the Apple video software.
Then I tell iTunes to get my music, point it to My Music directory and let it go. Now my iPod has no organization, virtually no albums, and things like 50+ Track1.mp3s with no way to figure with what Track2.mp3 they go!
What a bummer! Did no one at Apple do any functional requirements or testing? It appears that Apple expects you to start with an empty computer and use iTunes to rip the CDs one by one, or to buy your music from Apple.
Well, I ripped my music collection 10 years ago, it is managed quite appropriately by every other device or program I have used. With close to 1,000 CDs, the effort to use iTunes is daunting. I wish my girl friend had saved her money.
1Gen 2GB Nano - bought for gym but gave to family member as I didn;t want to futz with the scroll wheel while on the treadmill or elliptical.
2Gen 1GB Shuffle - which I now use at gym
8GB iPhone - use mostly for net surfing, mail, maps and sometimes movies. I almost forget its a music iPod sometimes. Besides I have all my music on the ipod classic below.
iPod Classic 160GB - I bought this to replace my old 30GB as my music and video collection is quite large and I like having everything with me.
85% of my music is ripped from my CD collection of the last 20 years. 15% or so is downloaded (preferably from places like Other Music, eMusic or Bleep.com when possible... DRM free and higher bit rates). My CD collection is in boxes in the closet.
I stream directly from iTunes to remote speakers hooked up to integrated amps in my home using several airport expresses so the iPod mostly gets used in my car, at work and on trips. I have invested in some $50 dollar Sony canal ear buds for the gym and some Shure EC2's for the office. I am one of the 5 people who bought an iPod Hifi and actually love it for its portability but it doubles as computer speakers for my Mac). Its no substitute for decent speakers but its nice to take to visit family, use it out on the deck for parties, etc).
And yes, I ever bought a Sony Walkman but felt isolated from the outside world.
I bought the first model, and it still works. The need for more ipods arises as (1) storage becomes better and cheaper; and (2) I realize that I need to rip everything lossless. So basically, I'm buying new ipods because the new ones have way more storage.
I love em, but wish itunes would give us better quality downloads. Why the hell not, Steve?

- I bought my daughter a first generation 10 gb ipod. I bought myself a second generation 40 gb. I bought myself a 1st generation ipod shuffle. I bought myself a ?generation 60 gb video ipod, I bought my daughter a ?generation ipod. I bought myself a second generation shuffle and gave the old shuffle to my son. They all work. I mainly use the 40 gb and the shuffle. I save the video ipod for long trips. I am not rich, but I do like the ipods.
