You wanted to see increased competition? This is a taste of just that.

They wouldn't be doing any of this if it weren't for the OHA and impending 700MHz auction.

Thanks to Google & Apple

New Apps & Software Developer Kits from Google (future Android ) & Apple ( current iPhone / Safari Web Apps / upcoming SDK for iPhone )
plus the opening up of airwaves as previous comments mention are what is driving this...

Verizon had their chance at the iPhone & said "no thanks" because they did not want to agree to Apple's terms regarding software on the iPhone, revenue sharing, etc.

NOW with competition from Google, Apple & future auction of airwaves...BINGO!

Typical Fat Cat Big Business short sightedness who come to the party late & then want to be a party pooper or a "me too - me too!" business model..ala MS.

I'll Believe It When I See It

I'll believe Verizon will develop a customer-centered policy when they do it, and not before. I have an iPhone now and am switching my Verizon five line family plan to ATT when my 2 year commitment is complete.
