- The Altair Lithium Ion Nanosafe battery can't blow up and it has a very high energy density--much, much greater than the old lead acid batteries. The Li Ion Nanosafe battery is going to be used (2008) in the Phoenix electric trucks as the only motive source. The Lithium batteries that blew up in the recent past were little ones used in computers. They used a completely different technology.

- Valence Technologies' new technology, lithium phosphate (Saphion) batteries, are extremely safe also. They are much more powerful and higher energy density than lead acid, and do not burn or explode like conventional lithium ion batteries. They even have a safety video on their site demonstrating how you can shoot an M855 5.65mm round at it, and it will not burn or explode.
