censorship and collusion
by face0 October 18, 2007 5:32 PM PDT
It is great for these multi billion dollar companies to dictate "UGC" sites should filter uploads by the end of 2007. However, without providing the open source software for free, then following this policy amounts to unfair collusion and barriers of entry to smaller companies. If these companies start removing links to any site that can't afford their dictated policy, I see lawsuits in the works. I do believe it is illegal in this country for large companies to collude to keep smaller companies from competing. I am not even going to get into the censorship aspect if they deem a "UGC" "dedicated" to copyright infringement and remove all the links to said site from their services.

Media Bigwigs Are Over Paid Dinosaurs

It doesn't make a difference what the "media companies" say, how many "guidelines" they concoct or how many people the sue. Pyrrhic victories that will cost them future business and ultimately, their mistresses, BMWs and Fleshlights.

People will ALWAYS out gun any words or laws, and continue to download at will. The only things laws and guidelines do is drive innovation into massive dark pool of encrypted networks.

Copyright laws are doomed.

What was Google thinking when they bought YouTube..???
by imacpwr October 18, 2007 11:35 PM PDT
When I first read that Google was looking to acquire YouTube I
thought they must be out of their minds. Any pre-schooler could
see it was a lawsuit waiting to happen. Lucky for Viacom Google
has more money than brains and went through with the buy-out.
