No way
by Buzz920 October 20, 2007 8:11 AM PDT
Al Gore is nothing more than the left's George Bush. George has his "war on terror" and Al has the global warming hoax, both promoted for one reason; to keep America scared. A scared America more readily accepts politicians' self-serving pronouncements without scrutiny. From the standpoint of what's good for the citizens of America, there is no difference anymore between Democrat and Republican. They have solidly aligned themselves with Corporate America, who is the real "owner" of the White House, Congress, the Press and the Pentagon. Ike's military-industrial complex is now the military-industrial-congressional-media complex which spells "good-bye to what was once a democratic, compassionate and generous America. That condo in Vancouver is starting to look better.

Nope. Global warming's a scam, and he's the main perpetrator.
by tech_junky48 October 20, 2007 10:23 AM PDT
In 1988, the global warming myth was started. here are the facts. In the last century, the average global temperature has gone up by only around 1 degree farenheit (5/9 of a degree celsius) and the poles are not melting, despite an aleged "hole in the ozone layer". The US, the country mainly attributed to global warming, actually only releases around 3/4 of its filtering capacity (with scrubbers, trees, etc.) of CO2 (it releases, i believe, 1.5 billion tons and filters 2 billion tons each year). The only part of Antarctica that is melting is the antarctic peninsula (around 2% of antarctica), and, even if the entire arctic ice cap melts, it is already displacing its total weight, so sea levels will remain constant. Kilemenjaro has been melting for 200 years. Satellite temperature measurements (the most accurate measurements) show only a slight warming in the Northern hemisphere and no change in the southern hemisphere for the last 30 years. The globe is not threatened by a massive cataclysmic greenhouse effect.

Satellite Data Perpetrates the Scam
by ddealer27 November 2, 2007 6:37 AM PDT
In your statement you mention the fact that the data gleaned to support Global Warming comes from satellite data. Since the earth has gone through many climate changes over millions of years, sampling data for only a few years is statically unsound. Glacial ice cores give a much truer picture of the earth?s climate changes over time. However these studies are completely ignored by people on the Global Warming band wagon, because they completely debunk Al Gore?s claims. In the late 70?s through the mid 80?s, scientists were preaching about the new Ice Age that was upon us. When Clinton signed the Kyoto Protocol, which was nothing more than a treaty that allowed other countries to tax the US for its energy use, Al Gore helped form the Hedge Fund ?Generation Investment Management?. The fund was to invest in Green friendly companies and buy and sell energy credits. Since the Kyoto Treaty was never ratified, the fund has not been able to buy and sell energy credits. Gore is Chairman of the Board for ?Generation Investments?, runs the company and has a financial motive to promote the Global Warming hype. His claim of buying Green Energy Credits is nothing more than purchasing stock in his own company. Like most politicians he has no ethical problem in misrepresenting the truth.

The assets of our country are being funneled off due to our oil usage, while we have enough oil off shore to last this country for over two hundred years. Canada is pumping oil off the same coast line, refining gas and selling it too us. We pay 3 times the world average for natural gas yet our politicians will not allow companies to tap our reserves because of the environmentalists. There has never been any type of ecological disaster involving natural gas. If you look closely at the 2007 energy bill, it is basically designed to prevent this country from developing our usable resources. While the Chinese are building the most advanced nuclear power plants in the world our government is pushing windmills, and solar power which will only work in some areas of the country but not many, and has no chance of being a primary source of energy. Lets not forger the 15 billion dollar tax penalty on the oil companies; who will ultimately pay the tax? You Greenies can keep following the Pied Piper or actually start researching information on both sides of the equation.
And even if you do not believe all of the facts of my above post...

Consider this, the longer the "scientists" claim there's Global Warming, the longer they get paid to research it.

GLOBAL WARMING = SCAM
by tech_junky48 October 20, 2007 10:33 AM PDT
global warming=more drought and more severe weather in some places.

No, No, NO! There has not been any more severe weather in the last century then in the century before. The climate is changing, because, by definition, it is unstable. We are not causing it.

More drought --> hungry people --> exploitable people --> war!

More GW Scams --> gullible alarmist people ---> exploitable people ---> more pointless money drain

Yeah and hes the one posting 4 comments within 10 min
by Ultimo01 October 20, 2007 12:41 PM PDT
Alright well Techjunkie is obviously stupid for posting the same 4 comments within 10 min, so hes just a crazy conspiracist nutjob that thinks every thing in life is wrong and he thinks he knows everything.

But yes I think Gore does deserve it because he has done more than anybody, he is in the famous so more people will know who he is, and he a devotee for doing it for over 20 years.

Now on the other hand techjunkie is probably in his mid 20s, if even that, spent most of his life thinking everything is wrong because of being bullied in school, and was told lies by his parents, and does not even have a atom of evidence to support his claim of a scam. So people like him should just be ignored completely.

It's one thing to have doubts about something but to come up with a definite conclusion with absolutely no supporting evidence just keep the mouth SHUT.

What?
by Buzz920 October 20, 2007 12:56 PM PDT
Oh Ultie, you're such a wordsmith. Re: Al Gore, "he a devotee"; Well, he a devotee alright, to higher taxes and corporate revenue without regard to their effect on the middle class, on whose financial shoulders this country operates.

Clearly you are a **** and don't understand the concept of a peace prize. I guess you thought they meant piece prize and reese's pieces were being given out for his jubbly @ss. Don't try to argue this was a good move. He did zippy, knows zippy, and will amount to zippy.

As someone who feels we need to rethink global policies, he's made my life harder because of his dumb@ss lack of research and admitted fabrication. And before you react, look it up. He admitted to making up data on his mocumentary for impact. @SSes!
Why is Global Warming controversial?
by danalighieri October 20, 2007 6:58 PM PDT
Al Gore probably does deserve the Nobel for the amount of effort he's put in to publicize the facts about climate change to the public. What is a mystery is why these facts create so much emotional controversy, as demonstrated by some of the comments in this thread.
Climate Change is not a conspiracy plotted by scientists to gain more funding or by environmentalists to gain some sort of vague control over our lives. It's a collection of observations from geophysicists, atmospheric chemists, plant biologists, climatologists, oceanographers, mathematicians, paleontologists and many others that all point to climate effects that are most likely caused by the man-made 30% increase in CO2 in the last century.
Arguments can be made about the validity of some of these observations, but every measurement and study made over the last 50 years would have to be invalidated in order to disprove the theories.

My crothch
by crudis01 October 20, 2007 8:37 PM PDT
Oh yeah, and my crotch is sweaty and proves global warming as much as Al did. Ask the clown to use facts so it will make my life easier. Not one tool on here actually has any understanding about the facts leading to warming trends. Change in earth axis for one. Al just made real scientists life harder by stealing the work of others. I'm sure Al crunched lots of numbers to reach his conclusion, seeing as how he is a renowned climatologist.
I'm sorry, what did Al do?
by crudis01 October 20, 2007 8:29 PM PDT
Seriously, what did he do? He took others work, has not original ideas, wraps it in a nice binder. And then admits to fabricating "facts" in his "documentary." I mean this isn't joke of a human being Michael Moore bad, but when he admitted he changed "facts" in his documentary to make more of an impact, he lost all credibility. And apparently misleading "facts" is also worth a Peace prize. What a joke. What has he changed, nothing. For those of us involved in the sciences it is just another sad disgrace for someone who wishes he were president and wins an award to make him feel better for not filling that role. Is some sad clown somewhere hoping this tool will get an '08 nod because of this. Let's hope not. For all Bushes faults, I still wouldn't have wanted Al Gore in there on 9-11. And he and Bill sold us up river to the Chinese. So I guess we need to decide, do we want to owe our lives and existence to oil companies or to the Chinese. Make your choice. Cause Hillary is calling.

I'M SORRY, YOU ARE JUST AN IDIOT.

Why do you choose to live under a rock?
Who else voice has been heard?
by onlyauser October 20, 2007 10:11 PM PDT
Who else voice has been heard or rasied more global awareness on a hugh scale? The simple answer is nobody.

And idiots ask if Al Gore deserves the Nobel Prize.

If Al Gore does not deserve the Noble Prize then maybe there should be no Nobel Prize at all.

The Nobel prizes are not just handed out like emmy's . I think it lends a lot of credibility to his claims.

Isn't this a tech website? I don't think anyone needs to back up any of these comments with literature, even your pedantic rant over someones attempt at a scientific based post. Sheesh give it a rest, global warming is just a media driven machine. You know it.

And if CNET were not a technology site, this might make sense
by PB G4 October 21, 2007 2:04 AM PDT
CNET asking about the merits of various preparations for cesar salad would seem to be similarly appropriate. Why not put up a poll - Is South Dakota a good travel destination? Should Van Halen be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame? Really CNET, the "NEWS" story is neither news nor technology related. This item is poor quality item and I encourage the site to exercise a bit of editorial descretion to keep quality up.
