It looks like COBOL all over

COBOL was supposed to be usable by managers. It ended up employing thousands of techies hired by clueless managers. This tool looks like that. The story says you can customize it using PHP. Managers won't do that. So again, techies will get another tool to make their life easier.

What this means is that DBAs are going to have to become security experts and deal with making sure that the corporate use of their data is in compliance with SOX and data privacy and retention laws.

Very dangerous and bad for the corporate health.

Data Mashups are just the tip of the iceberg

What a business person really wants is mashups based on business processes.

That's really the real value is for business users like myself. And if it's not as easy-to-use as the consumer applications on the market today like iTunes or MS Office then it will be very hard to gain traction.

Orchestr8's AlchemyPoint is another mash-up builder that's been released in recent weeks. It offers many capabilities QEDWiki doesn't, like arbitrary web content clipping/pasting.
