It is unfortunate that Pirate Bay makes money from advertising on the site. This gives people like Giacobbi a wedge to argue that they are doing something illegal.
So far as I can tell, they are not doing anything wrong. They host no illegal content, just links to files that contain links to illegal content hosted by others.
They are making money from advertising on their site mainly because of their efforts to build, run, and maintain their site. It so happens that the content they host is not pleasing to Giacobbi.
If traffic were driven to their site because they hosted some other type of information, I am sure someone like Giacobbi would crop up to insist that it be taken down.

- Firstly I get the impression that, despite repeat simple exlanations of what The Pirate Bay does, it somehow doesn't get through to people as to the legal status of TPB. Lets make it simple. Google advertise and make money. Google perform search functions to sites. Type into google (replace -popular band- with obviously a popular band's name) "-popular band- torrent". Or "-popular band- mp3/warez/etc".

- What about the pirate forums? Places like www.ipmart-forum.com and www.ppcwarez2.com and the like are major site for piracy that should be stopped. Yet their activity goes unchecked. It just shows that the Web Sherrif does not really care about those he claims to protect, its all about the money for him as well.

(3 Comments)Now try to somehow imagine this what The Pirate Bay does, but with a logo of a ship on the front. Try to somehow also understand that if TPB is illegal, then search engines also are illegal. You can find illegal and legal content with both.
I also get the impression that the "Web Sheriff" dislikes TPB more than anyone because they have actually stood up and questioned, as I have, the questionable status of being a 'web sheriff'.
