If I am not mistaking... its not JUST NBC...
by roark1 September 4, 2007 9:07 PM PDT
If I am not mistaking it's not just NBC (which is also CNN isn't
it?)... also Universal and their music library, which will now do
what Apple has been requesting (remove the DRM) with
everybody BUT iTunes... which just makes me laugh even more.
It's amazing how business executives of media conglomerates
can be so lost in the business of selling their wares. Musicians
and Moviemaking have been so ridiculously lost by the huge
egos of these very idiots. The patrons are going to be the
biggest losers in the end. When no one can find anything to
listen to or watch. When one by one, the big boys go down in
flames. They think they can't afford to develop talent anymore?
Well, when your bottom line is being made by the decisions of
these morons, the artistry of the artist is just going to be buried
in the ashes of the decisions of the morons in the executive
suites.

Well if these posts are a predictor of what's coming
by Superbluescreen September 4, 2007 10:37 PM PDT
NBC will be eating a huge plate of crow. I predict that by
November they WILL reconsider iTunes and make some BS
statement that Apple agreed to change the packaging of their
content when they really won't.

It's funny how out of touch these companies are. They still think
it's the 80's. I guess a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

This is the first time that I have read a piece on News.com and
almost ALL of the talkbacks are right on the nose!

See NBC, consumers AREN'T stupid!!!

NBC Universal has NBC network, CNBC, and MSNBC, in addition to
Univision.

CNN is part of the Time Warner organization.

I've stopped watching anything related to NBC and CBS since they
cancelled Don Imus -- NOT becuase of his remarks but really
because key advertisers decided to pull their advertising.
Amazon's best selling MP3 player?
by GGGlen September 5, 2007 12:27 AM PDT
Oh how I hope that a shiny, new super iPod is released today!
Can you imagine, being stupid enough (Amazon AND NBC!) to
shoot yourself in both feet on the eve of a new 'Pod?
This is going to be funny!

hate it when i get abandoned by someone, i really enjoyed
watching them on the way to work.

i got 2 video ipods, for me and my wife.
its not an investment that any discounts can get me to forget.

Actually its something i am not going to forget, i got to
remember to tune to other stations.

This kind of moronic activity really should have some legislation
to protect us consumers from the big companies deciding that
we are using the wrong music player. This really bites.

Stay away from TIVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Hardrada September 5, 2007 3:51 AM PDT
The worst ever. I do production for shows and ordered a bunch of dual tuner Tivo's over a year ago. Nothing but problems, they crash all the time and Tivo loads so much crap (promo commercials and stupid stuff that you can not stop) on every update that takes up 15% of your hard drive space. And you Pay monthly for these pieces of crap and they still are hosing people for all they are worth. Not to mention Tivo lies about the Tivo software being able to transfer files from your Tivos to PC. The basic Tivo software does transfer and it takes forever, but they make you upgrade the software to 24 bucks per Tivo to convert the files so you can even play them to watch them. Of course I converted them without their scamming software.

The other grudge I have with Tivo, they actually sent us some Units that we bought brand new and gave our subscriptions (that were paid in full for a year) to some other customer and two of our Tivos have never worked because of it, and they have never ever fixed the problem. I have taped phone calls of them saying they would fix it numerous times. We called over 50 times. And a few times they made us wait up to an hour on hold. And they also scammed us out the rebates too, they owe us 300 dollars in rebates. And when we called about that, they said they don't have our rebates numbers in their system. So I looked into online with some forums. And come to found out there are 1000's of people that scammed rebate refunds to. They said the same thing to these people as they said to us.

Also for anyone thinking about buying a Tivo for someone for a gift, if you go and order one and of course you have to pay monthly service or pay 1-year or 2 or 3 year plans. Here is the thing most people don't realize. When you buy these Tivo's and pay for whatever service agreement you decide on, be it monthly or yearly. The day you order and pay for your tivo is the day it's activated!!!! So if you buy a Tivo for someone for an early Christmas present and you have it in the closet for 4 months. Guess what? you just wasted 4 months of service that you paid on. A lot of people don't realize this when ordering a Tivo.

STAY AWAY FROM TIVO!!!

Tivo?
by danielwsmithee September 5, 2007 3:57 AM PDT
I've never understood why people are willing to pay a monthly subscription for Tivo anyways. I personally have enjoyed the computer based TV Tuner/DVR. You get free program updates from the internet, if you want more space just add another hard-drive, the files are already on your computer and will export to anything. Elgato makes great products with their EyeTV software if your using a Mac. I've heard the MS products are great too.

Hardrada...LOL!
by Nfuego September 5, 2007 12:31 PM PDT
I'm just going to disagree with your whole post...how ridiculous! We have two TiVos. We have owned them for YEARS. They are by far the best entertainment purchase we have ever made. They are far better than ANY other DVR I have ever used. Your post is full of misinformation. Perhaps the problems you are having is not because of the equipment.
Just bought my Elgato!

Beside the fact that this post is totally off topic, I guess I should
heed your biased opinion and not buy THE MOST INNOVATED DVR
ever made. Its funny that I have never had one of these problems
with my seires 2 DVRs that I have had for over 3 years.

Probably a good move ...
by zhanate September 5, 2007 7:28 AM PDT
It's probably a good move for NBC. There are plenty of people who don't have iPods and/or don't particularly want to watch TV shows on them. They just want to watch them on their (mostly Windows) PCs and probably won't have a problem paying $1.99 (which is what the episodes are selling for on Amazon). I suspect NBC's audience for these things will grow substantially.

4.99 Get it straight BAD MOVE
by Thomas, David September 5, 2007 8:03 AM PDT
They wanted to charge 4.99 per episode.

Probably a good move? Do you live in a hole somewhere, and
only stick you head above ground for 2 minutes each year??!

Yes I know it's not a nice comment. But if you don't even have
the slightest clue, I am trying to figure out why you bothered to
comment?

Of course, you comment is so off it probably is just a fishing
expedition for an inflammatory thread.

NBC will sell less on Amazon I think.
by waynebranch September 5, 2007 11:30 AM PDT
I often bought NBC shows that I missed from iTunes, and watched in on my laptop because it is so easy to use, on any Computer, not just a Mac.
Mine is a HP/Compaq. The problem with Amazon, is the buggy program that they use.
I have never been able to get it to work on my computer.
Of Course!!! It has always been about CONTROL!
by winstein September 5, 2007 8:29 AM PDT
Universal pulled out iTunes and Viacom pulled out YouTube, and years ago that Disney pulls out Comcast. They are all about CONTROL! It is a power play by the big content owners who want to dictate the terms and the distribution channels and the the price. It was never about consumers. They really don't care what we want. It is the same reason why most mobile phones don't have WiFi and can only buy songs from your phone company (except iPhone).

Apple Fanboy!
by sbbrian September 5, 2007 10:26 AM PDT
The Apple idiot-Phone is not 1st, nor the only phone that offers both WiFi and the ability to add songs without purchaseing the song/ringtone from the phone company. Many phones have been offering these features for years!

The only reason Apple does not OFFICIALLY offer MP3 ringtone support is because they haven't figured out a way to charge you for it! We all know it is not difficult incorporate MP3 ringtone support on the iPhone. If it's so difficult why can a bunch of kids do it before Apple? Even with Apple holdingout on the release of the iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit)?
Is NBC being a pig about things
by jbobstone September 5, 2007 9:06 AM PDT
I suspect NBC is acting in the way many companies do. They make
a deal when they want to get exposure and then later think that
they are too big for you and try and muscle more money out of
you.

If that be the case, ggod for Apple to tell them no. Amazon is just a
way to try and save face while having made a bad move on NBC's
part.

this was a good deal. i can't believe how few said this was a great deal. itunes software sucks. you get ease of use across systems, but only if you lock into one vendor only apple. i remember when everyone use to rag on microsoft for the same thing. i personally watch the video on my computer. and the itunes player has always sucked. i got some psych episodes on unbox and the quality was nice and it ran well.

this sounds to me like all the apple flunkies telling me how great the emperors clothes are. also, buying heroes? that show was lame.
