If the next notebook I buy uses a Sony battery I am quite tempted
to just buy a 'knock off' battery as a replacement....It doesn't look
they could be any worse!

Because there wasn't a problem then...

Remember, most of these notebooks were designed, supplier contracts signed, and manufacturing started long before there was ever a problem with the Sony batteries.

I purchased a Toshiba Satallite laptop about 15 days ago and I had to return it this week. Last night I was on the internet in the middle of something and it decided to turn it self off. It said something about my battery was low, so I charged it for about 12 to 15 hours and it still was not working. Decided to return it to Wal Mart and the electronic guy told me that the power cord or the battery had a shortage and there was nothing that could be done but to send it back to the manufacturer and give a refund. I enjoyed the Toshiba for the time that I had it, but after reading the recalls on it for the Sony battery that might cause a fire, I am glad that I returned it. I hope that I can find another deal like that one for $348.00.
