Comments on: RIAA ordered to cover suit target's legal fees

In what appears to be the first such occurrence, the recording industry must pay more than $68,000 in attorneys fees to an Oklahoma woman whose case was dismissed last summer.

In other words...

"Our interest in these cases is enforcing the rights of the record companies and artists, while fostering an online environment where the legal marketplace can flourish and the music industry can invest in the new bands of tomorrow," the group said in a statement. "In the handful of cases where the person engaging in the illegal activity in the household is not the person responsible for the ISP account, we look to gather the facts quickly and do our best to identify the appropriate defendant."

...the RIAA screwed up.

RIAA will be replaced by Music 2.0
by Technoracle July 17, 2007 9:06 AM PDT
Sites such as Mix2r.com, Jamglue and Splice Music are already making inroads into the RIAA's monopoly. New indie artists can actually sell music online and get a bigger share of a smaller set of sales and still come out ahead.

I don't know if the RIAA is being replaced but from what I've seen peer2peer on college networks is quickly being replaced - by peer2peer running on private encrypted wireless networks.

Combine the high density of students in dorms with 802.11n and you're basically back to the wild west days of Napster.

And I doubt if the RIAA will be on the guest list of any of these networks.

This story gave me a big smile. The money mongers saw reality
for once and the big dog had the small neighborhood cat swat it
in the hind.

the killer quote from is:
The RIAA on Tuesday defended its handling of the Foster case:
"...we look to gather the facts quickly..."

QUICK is never good. Look at microsoft word in programming
history.

If anything I thought RIAA would **like** sharing to encourage
sales of CD's. Sampler bits put up by artists (example, 30
second files) of their tracks let me know if I wanted the album or
not. Full tracks at sub CD quality does the exact same.
potential sales of CD's. If people really want the material they
will buy the CD.
