Return my iPhone? No way!
by meddeviceguy July 11, 2007 12:42 PM PDT
On the whole it has lived up to the hype. It is a pleasure to use.
And the interface works very well. The only downside is I wish I
could delete multiple emails in one step. I also need to figure out
how to keep the bluetooth connected to my car, as the connection
drops off after a few minutes if the phone isn't being used.

I <3 my iPhone
by Jeff Putz July 11, 2007 12:46 PM PDT
I got mine the day after launch, and after a week and a half, I have to say it's the only phone that I've ever owned that's useful beyond being a phone. And even the phone stuff is pretty amazing (visual voice mail and contact management is very cool).

Most of the complaints people have are things we knew before the launch, so I'm not even sure why they bought one anyway. The smaller percentage of complaints is over things like battery life, which frankly I've not had issues with. Haven't charged mine in two days, with about 20 hours of standby and about four hours of use (mix of calls, Internet use and iPod listening).

I'd like iChat and MMS pic message support, but I suspect those are firmware updates they can do.

By the way, there's a headphone adapter, cheap, on Apple's site. Remember that the jack is actually a four-conductor plug, so even if your headphones fit, they wouldn't work.

Pure jealousy
by lavacentral July 11, 2007 1:27 PM PDT
OK I admit that I was furious when I heard that as much as 500K people might have bought the iPhone.
For days I read about the iphone frenzy in the news and I thought how stupid that these people are giving away $600 for a phone.

AT the same time I know deep in my heart that it is a cool device. I cant deny it, it is really really cool. The fact that you can scroll through stuff on the screen like they do on Star Trek TNG computer surfaces is just awesome!!

But why was I so furious then? Sure enough there are people spending 80,000+ for BMW or mercedes. Those people can easily buy an accord or a camry that would last longer and give them just as good of a car. But then it wouldnt be cool. It wouldnt give you that Show off factor. Wow I got a BmW or a benz. You feel good knowing you are sitting there, watching the road (as you should) thinking everyone else is looking at the cool BMW or benz sign on your car.
Same thing with an iphone, maybe you can surf the net once in a while you are at the airport, or maybe you do it at a oh cafe, or in the mall? And it feels really really good to take out the sleek device, knowing full well that someone will notice how cool you are!!

After all these thoughts, I sure do admit that I am jealous that these folks are showing off and are able to do that. **** you for being able to do that. I on the other hand barely pay for a $10 dsl service to have the net and after paying my rent I have to decide wether to buy orange juice this month or not cause I have only $100 left in my account until july 29th. Maybe you have a great job that pays you 80k a year and maybe I have a teachers job and have only 35k a year.
Well it really sucks!!

I am jealous because 500k people have spent $600 and paying nearly $70 a month for the next two years to AT&T. But then again there is millions of us poor folk who cant out of the blue spend save $600 to spend on a device that we DONT NEED and be able to continue to pay monthly cost of $70.

No- It is the best phone ever
by drtaxsacto July 11, 2007 1:29 PM PDT
There is no way I would return this phone. It is one of the rare
instances where a technology company did everything they said
they would - all the hype turned out not to be hype.

actually just the opposite reaction to vid
by weegg July 11, 2007 3:07 PM PDT
Entertaining, what was amazing if you watch closely that the iPhone
actually was operating for awhile in that blender (owing to its
ruggedize design).

It would be interesting doing a side-by-side comparison of seeing
how long a Treo or other smartphone would last in the blender
operating.

I bet the iPhone would win again :-)

I love it! Sure it could use some tweaks, but it's still WAY better
than any other phone I've ever used.

It's staying right here with me!

1) My work will not allow me to sync my contacts and calendar b/c the iPhone uses iTunes. I don't want to have to retype contacts and appointments into two systems.
2) Battery - I know that 300-400 charges will only last about a year with the way I would use it. I dont want to pay an additional $75 a year for a new battery.
3) Bluetooth - I was told that my existing Nokia bluetooth earpiece would not pair properly with my iPhone and that I needed to buy the $130 version that Apple sells. This was contrary to everthing else I read plus I cant find the Apple bluetooth headset anywhere.

Bluetooth

You do not need the apple headset. I've gotten it to work with Motorola and Plantronics headsets, so there is no reason why it should not work with Nokia headsets.

The iPhone is a shear master piece! Apple has truly reinvented the phone.

No, I won't return it

But I have to say that the at&t network is still as bad as it was 4 years ago when I bailed and went to Verizon. For me the features of the phone are worth the switch to the inferior network, but for most, if not all, of my friends and family, the phone's features wouldn't be used enough to make the switch worth it. I really can't say enough good things about the phone- the features are just as cool and smooth as the ads showed. But I also can't say enough bad things about at&t's network- I can't use the phone in buildings, and I've had half a dozen dropped calls in less than 2 hours of talk time.

Best phone out there, especially if you have a Mac and use iLife
apps. Best iPod experience. Best keyboard once you've started to
master it. Lacks GPS and a few other niceties but it's version 1. Will
be buying version 2 as soon as it's out if it add GPS and other
useful niceties. Until then, will hope to see a bunch of software
upgrades. Already having a lot of fun thanks to the efforts of many
AJAX developers out there (games, instant messaging, and much
more). Expecting to see even more cool stuff in the coming weeks.

iPhone is for keeps!
by theiway July 11, 2007 2:53 PM PDT
I am so very impressed with the iPhone that returning it should be a crime! It is the best multi-purpose mobile phone created thus far, and despite some minor shortcomings, it is THE phone to have. I look forward for future software updates, and futurue version of iPhone. I am very happy with mine. Now go get your own! Cheers!

Apple fans are too crazy to return their phones

Buyers would have been more likely to return this Phone if this wasn't an Apple product and Apple fans wouldn't have been as crazy as they are.

I still have my g4 cube, but the iPhone just isn't 100% there... so yes I am returning my phone.
iLove My iPhone But....
by lostgod87 July 11, 2007 2:56 PM PDT
I already did... Don't get me wrong I love Apple I have a iMac at
home I have an MacBook Pro and I have had just about every
iPod that has ever come out but my iPhone went back
yesterday...

I was one of the lucky one to be one of the first in line for the
phone... so when I got it went home and connected sync'd it to
my Cingular AKA AT&T account and everything was running
nicely Until the next day... It crashed didn't even turned on... So
naturally I went back and had them exchanged it... and they did
soo I got my new one and everything was working Great I was
even more in love with it then when I first put my fingered on it
and scrolled So I decide to take it on vacation and thats when the
the trouble started I went to use google maps to get there and it
kept going back to the home screen and and when I would lunch
back the app I would have to rest everything the address and
where I was going thank God I carried my navigation system
with me so I just quit the google maps plus with it working over
EDGE instead of 3G it was slow but nothing that I mind I didn't
care... So as I get to my hotel who offers Wi-Fi free and I was
just supper excited to use my iPhone on it.... It didn't work... Soo
there is a list of thing that happen on vacation mostly the fact
that I would be in a application and it for no reason go back to
the home screen .... even when just using it for iPod use...
Aging... I loved my iPhone it's UI was amazing, the design was
everything that was said about it was correct even all the
negative thing that were true but I didn't mind cause I knew it
was going to get it sooner or later...

Aging A HUGE apple fan... but I think I am going to wait till all
the glitches are hopefully worked out on the 2nd Gen.... And I
will gladly spend 800 buck if I had to... But for now I am just
going to stick with my Blackberry.

PS. Also if you are going to return be ready for a minor pain in
the butt...

Just returned it an hour ago
by df503 July 11, 2007 3:30 PM PDT
Funny this topic just showed up, because I returned mine a short while ago. Call quality was bad, EDGE was slooooow, EDGE data blocked voice calls, push email blocked from exchange imap servers, no video camera, safari crashed more frequently then the "no BS" reviews stated, and the list goes on. BTW, AT&T charges you the pro-rated amount of your monthly service plan in addition to the activation fee. Verizon wireless doesn't have a problem covering the bill for customers who try out their service for 30 days and don't like it. AT&T should learn a thing from Verizon on that topic. Testing the iphone cost me a total of $115 for 11 days. The hype was just that, hype.
