change it so everything so Apple on it. God, you'd think the entire world only uses Apple when you watch movies. How many times does the friggin' Apple logo have to appear on EVERY COMPUTER AND LAPTOP IN EVERY MOVIE!?

I thought some Mac users were zealots but it seems like you are as
well . Almost all of your posts are seething with hatred for Apple. I
wonder what made you feel so anti Apple?

WinAMP
by SeizeCTRL July 6, 2007 5:32 AM PDT
WinAMP has countless visualizations and no logos unless they are trial versions.

On my PC, it's the only player I will use. iTunes is only used to put albums and videos on my iPod and that's it. Easy CD-DA Extractor is my chosen ripper/burner and BS Player is my video player. I'm happy with these choices.

But you have to admire their sneaky subliminal way of pimping out their logo to their followers. Very VERY CULT like.

One wonders if Steve Jobs were to announce the iComet and that if we all purchase the Apple suicide kit, that our souls would magically be sent away to ride the tail of the comet throughout the galaxy until it reaches heaven... how many of them would actually do it. Maybe call it iGate 2008 in honor of Heaven's Gate.

Whatever...I feel after reading this article I am in vulnerable state and may be compelled to buy all six products that were advertised on the right side of this page...

Give me a break.

The Apple logo fades out eventually, but if you want it to go away
immediately, press 'd' on the keyboard.

Also, you can download visualizer plugins for iTunes that don't
include the logo.

Silly article.

a blog... right? The Cnet News.com *blog*?

I'm pretty sure all of your Livejournals and Myspaces focus on things just as trivial.

CNET is a professional news organization.

Is it wrong to expect more from them?

Is it wrong to expect them to write about real issues and not about a pointless and totally optional visualizer?

Is it wrong to expect them not to be blathering idiots?
Better take that Chevy logo off your car and...

It's unfortunate that CNET lets it's cub reporters fill space during holidays,as this was one of the top 10 "waste of space" pieces and should have been relegated a fanboy blog piece.

It's both ignorant and delusional to believe companies should provide free software without including their corporate I.D. -- the logo has been on there for five years since Apple bought the precursor to iTunes and "evolved"the product into iTunes 1.0 for -- Mac.

Apparently the "younggins" out there who believe they should get everything for free (eg steal it off the web) are incensed whenever a company reminds people using its free software who made it... duh.

ABC should likely not show its logo on TV anymore, and hey... let's take that logo of the new Chevy camaro. Don't want to be reminded who made the product.

take the average pc and the average mac that can both run the same game. in 2 years a game will come out that WON'T work on either. with the mac, you gotta buy a new system if you want to play it at full everything. pc? you don't.

this is the third time i used reply to story instead of reply to comment.

this is to the guy who says that a mac will last 5 years without needing to upgrade.

pcs have a LOT more games then the mac. one can buy a top of the line PC that can last more then a few years, but the difference in price is not worth it. its cheaper to just upgrade when the time comes and that component is cheaper.

that is one thing. the pc is much cheaper then mac. apple definitely profits off of people buying into the brand. thats not inherently bad. i don't enjoy it because i want to also get a macbook, but its just so friggin' expensive.
let me get this straight
by pjhenry1216 July 6, 2007 10:09 AM PDT
i want a macbook pro. its overly expensive for what it is, but i'll still buy one when i can finally afford it.

i don't hate apple. they do have huge lock-in with a lot of their stuff, but thats what makes them so stable. i prefer customization and third-party stuff over stable, but thats my opinion. if i can have both systems, i prefer that.

i do understand disliking the apple logo popping up there though.

and i don't understand why you guys attacked him with such ferocity. hence i attacked with the same so i can at least be on the same level.

I've really enjoyed reading these reader comments. It's wonderful how any Apple story or blog provokes such heated debate. I'd like to correct some misperceptions though.

1. I'm not a guy, at least last time I checked
2. I'm not a cub reporter, despite what my paycheck indicates
3. I don't prefer PCs to Macs. I use both. And over the past dozen or so years I've written about technology I've had more than a fair share of stories that have angered the PC crowd.
4. CNET News.com blogs can be news or not news. According to Wikipedia's definition: "Blogs provide COMMENTARY or news ...; some function as more personal online DIARIES." (capitalizations are mine)
5. Who really wants to hit the "d" key to make the logo go away every time it appears when they are trying to host a party?
6. I'm not saying Apple doesn't have a right to brand its own free service. I'm suggesting that with all the creative, innovative talent they have they maybe could have come up with a better way to do it.
7. Maybe holding companies to higher standards will entice them to meet and even exceed that bar. Is any company/institution too sacred to criticize in a supposedly free society? The generous and confident have the least to lose.

We appreciate your indulging us News.com reporters as we expand into the looser and hopefully more fun world of blogging. And we respect your right to express your opinions. We will try not to get thin-skinned about it. Although I *was* really hurt by what "TechOgre" said...

Now, back to tearing each other (and me) up.

To ask the person running it to change to one of the many without the logo?

Ranting about Apple in this case opened you up to very valid criticism and mockery.

You are complaining about ONE specific visualization that a third party chose to use and placed the blame on Apple.

You should have complained, if they didn't change it, vote with your feet and leave. End of story.
I don't mind being inspired.

The point of blog post is well taken.

Personally speaking, I'm proud of the Apple logo and don't mind it appearing on my screen. It reminds me of my continued support of what I consider to be a better product line, all pros and cons considered.

Though capitalist gain is surely one of the fruit to born through such marketing and branding mechanisms as described in Elinor's post, what the Apple logo also bears is the attitude of being off-center, cutting-edge, and best-of-breed.

If there were ideas to put into people's heads in a subliminal way and influence the way they live their lives, the aforementioned three are certainly among the ones I'd be comfortable with.

I wish it stayed there all the time actually. I didn't buy an iMac just
to stay completely hidden behind the scenes!
