excellent article on RSS if it hadn't been for the RSS feeder that is
built into my browser, Safari, on my iMac. Apparently C/NET's RSS
feed was a default in the browser, and I have enjoyed many fine
articles since upgrading the browser with MAC OS Tiger. Also,

I have been reading a lot about RSS lately and I find your article very impressive. Great vision... And I agree with you on the fact that companies getting into RSS must understand what RSS means (today and in future) to their business and how they are going to benefit from it without killing the major reasons for user adoption of RSS (i.e. no ads no pop-ups). Companies that do this right might get a big piece of the RSS pie... Also checked out your website. Great concept. Wish you luck...

Good job Bill. Free advertizing via CNET disguised as an article.
What people don't realize is that stuffing ads down people's throats is self destructive. If our RSS feeds become nothing but ad delivery vehicles, then RSS utility will be seriously damaged.
The community will have to respond with a distributed RSS ad blocker - a tool for filtering the crap from the content.

- While you may be correct in stating that RSS will decrease publisher's control over viewers... in todays overcrowded world RSS is esential, or people just don't have time to go to your site.

(5 Comments)I know that I've stopped reading several sites that were previously visited daily (yahoo games, Ctrl-alt-del) because i can't find RS feeds for them. So now i get alternatives (1up, Penny Arcade) tat i CAN get feeds for.
Most good sites provide 2 feeds... full articles, but with minor text ads... or headlines only without ads. This seems to work well.
