Being in a border state in a major city near Mexico I can tell you that we see major spending trips by Mexican Nationals coming up for shopping vacations.
Don't think Mexico is just a back-woods country. They have plenty of citizens that do quite well for themselves.
Before my wife died we were planning on retiring to Mexico because it has a lot of what you need without the excesses and the cost of living (in certain areas) is less than here, but I will stay here with her now.

Very excited to have them open in Mexico. If they can establish
competitive prices on consumer gear (and train a service-oriented
staff - please! - along the way) they will attract a *lot* of
customers. I just spent $2000 in Atlanta and brought HD cameras &
equipment back with me; the lowest comparable price in Mexico
City was 50% higher! Good luck to them!

I was very excited once I received the news about the opening of Best Buy in Mexico City, where I currently live. With the strong competition it imposes, Mexican retailers will have to lower their prices and stop taking advantage of mexicans. It is also a really good indicator that Mexican economy is being trusted by private investment. I was waiting for this to happen and now I can't wait to see how it makes mexican retailers more competitive, something that lacks in Mexico.
