Comments on: Leopard, Power Macs expected at Apple confab

Steve Jobs will definitely give developers a taste of the upcoming Mac OS X. A shiny new Intel-based box may also appear.

Jobs should come clean on the stock options issue
by Jackson Cracker August 7, 2006 7:18 AM PDT
Reports now suggest Apple may have to restate its results going
back as long as four years. They need to say what they've done
to identify the employees responsible and whether those people
are still with the company.

While I agree with you, a developer's conference is the wrong place.
Jobs is coming clean.....
by Earl Benser August 7, 2006 7:51 AM PDT
His own stock options were cancelled long ago without being
exercised and with no personal gain to Jobs. Apple is recomputing
it's financial reports based upon new SEC requirements. Remember,
Apple blew the whistle on it's own problem long before anyone else
did.

I suggest that your 'complaint' shows a serious lack of
understanding of the problem and the solutions.
Along with 79 other companies...

Apple is fine, what they did was perfectly legal, but now the SEC has changed some rules, so Apple along with 79 other companies (so far) have to update some accounting. Not a big deal at all.

Please read up on the subject before you post again.

I wonder what CPU they end up using on the G6 Power Mac, or is it going to even be called that ?

Anyone have a clue ?

the new power mac will be called Mac pro
by likimikix August 7, 2006 9:33 AM PDT
mac pro and forget about G5 or G6; it looks like apple is launching
new exciting products. My especulation is based on the fact the
apple store is closed for updates.
Why??
by nmcphers August 7, 2006 9:33 AM PDT
Why would it be called G6 if it's not using a 6th generation PPC processor?

Apple has said that it will not do virtualization

Actually Apple has commented on this.

Phil Schiller was asked:

‘will Apple include a virtualization solution in [the next version of Mac OS X] Leopard.’ He said ‘absolutely not, the R&D would be prohibitive and we’re not going to do it. Our solution is dual boot.’

Now I wouldn't be too surprised if Apple bought Parallels, but I don't think they'll do that either.

Well...
by airwalkery2k August 7, 2006 9:49 AM PDT
Apple also said it will stick with IBM for chips.

Things can change, nothing is concrete.

And when did they say that? 3 years ago or more?

I'm sure 3 or 4 years from now it wouldn't be as easy to hold them to their promise of no Virtualization software, because the reasons that prompted that stement is likely to change. Not so much so in a few months.
Jobs not involved in options problems

ya true

Maybe they need to standalize their Power Machine names, so that no matter what hardware switch they make, people can follow the upgrades better.

That's all I was thinking.
