What about Symbian OS?
by devdanke November 7, 2004 1:37 PM PST
This article says Palm is considering other OS's, such as Linux & Microsoft's. I wonder why the Symbian OS isn't mentioned. It seems to be custom made for small mobile devices like Palm's. I'd be glad to hear input on this question from those in-the-know.

Logical step

I personally think that moving to a Linux and or Unix based OS is natural step for Palm. The Palm OS is a nice OS, but it is limited by it's flexibility.

no good idea

I think switching to WINCE will not be a good idea. Palm is used to have a bit of shielded market segment. Its client mostly want an alternative to M$ monoculture. When they enter the WINCE market they are a tiny fish in the ocean and I think they are not used to fight against many me toos. They will loos e the alternative bonus. I hope they take this into account.
