Although Apple announced the Core Duo based notebook in early January, it will not SHIP until Feb 15 (plus or minus a week). The PC vendors whose websites have Core Duo based notebooks listed (some on the same day as Apple announcement, like Gateway, Sony, and Acer) won't SHIP until mid-Feb (plus or minus a week). Dell, HP, Alienware, etc probably won't be posting new models on their websites until they can actually start shipping them.

Bringing up the iMac is not that big of an advantage inasmuch as PC desktop users have been able to buy Hyper-Threading processors (HT Technology) since 2002 (?) and dual-cores (Pentium D) have been used in PCs since 2005. Additionally, Intel has the Intel Extreme Edition processor, which is a dual-core processor with HT technology, which as been out for a couple of months. The Intel Core Duo seems to be a notebook chip, making it less powerful than the Pentium 4 (HT), Pentium D (Dual Core), and Intel Extreme Edition. Apple is using the Core Duo in its iMac to maintain it's small size.

I am not bashing Apple, for I respect them a lot. I just needed to make sure the facts are straight. Apple will eventually produce their pro lines with whatever the best Intel processors are at the time.
Is it that surprising

with Apples switch to Intel that MacBook Pro will be using the new Intel chips? Dell has been using Intel for years so is it really that surprising that Dell will be using this chip also?
Dell already shipping core duo

Intentional slip?

The prices seem low for a dual core notebook, did they
intentionally slip the specs to bugger Apple?

OSX vs Windoze is worth $500 EASY!
by February 1, 2006 2:20 PM PST
Dell can scam its lemmings all they want, in the end, the hardware
from Dell and Apple will be comparable on price and performance
(Apple still wins with their design though).

But no matter what Dell puts into their ugly bricks they call laptops,
it will still run that train-wreck of an OS called Windoze. I'll pony
up another $500-$750 for the productivity of OS X any day!

I don't understand what all the flap over Windows is about. I have had a Windows XP based computer since 2002 and I have not had any reinstalls or viruses. The only time I am forced to reboot is when I install software that requires a reboot after installation.
