Bollywood-2-Video Games: Will It Work
by bhushan bhaagii July 26, 2007 10:09 AM PDT
I Commend the team that has come up with this idea. The article does not specify if the games will be restricted to computers or will also be
targeted at games console owners. But the universe is comparatively small for PCs, and even smaller for games consoles. Sony's latest Playstation is said to be priced in the region of USD650/750. Way beyond the means of more than 99% of Indians.

Ownersship of computers is an expensive proposition. I had to forego Intel Pentium4 and settle for AMD's Athlon chip because of a significant price difference for my unbranded home computer, which ultimately cost Rs.28,000( about US$ 700/- ) with CD Drive, graphic video and sound cards. This was 2 years back. The price is definitely lesser now, but even then, a relative high-end PC with options like speakers,
webcam, dvdwriter, et al will not cost less
than USD 650.

Vice City, Grand Theft Auto, Counter Strike are the favourites of youngsters, who gather in cyber cafes for multiplayer games of Counter Strike.

They spend fair sums (by Indian standards), sitting in groups for about a couple of hours, shelling out the equivalent of a 1/1.5 dollar for the privilege. The challenge will be in
weaning/converting these youngsters to have a look at Bollywood3D's offering.

Will not fly

The Bollywood audience are not generally video game players. Most of the people who can afford video games usually have watched the English movie which was copied by the creative minds in Mumbai and might have played games associated with that movie.

I feel sorry, this is wrong sense of partiotism that Desis suffer from.

I have a team in INDIA that work for the company I work for. They came over here and the hotel we put them up in had a PS3 and a load of games - they loved it, althought it took me a while to teach them. Amazing
