I play Mr. DO all the time
by martypdji1 June 14, 2007 4:01 PM PDT
The original Mr. DO, made in 1982, can be played using an arcade simulator (MAME), and me and my friend, who played it back in the early 80's, play it all the time cause it's still challanging and we're still not tired of it.

Amen.
One word...GALAGA!
by nflfan_49 June 14, 2007 4:08 PM PDT
I'm just stunned Galaga is not on the list of greatest arcade games from the 1980's. It's still one of the best games ever, even the console versions. It was and still is awesome!

Robotron hands down, honorable mention to Joust & Defender
by jsohler June 14, 2007 4:29 PM PDT
You can still pick up the real deal on Ebay... or a 6-in-1 conversion that also has the honorable mentions. Great stuff, but definately not for the arcade wimps playing the cutsey games! LOL!

Games on the BBS world?
by Galt June 14, 2007 4:41 PM PDT
I'd love to see a list of some of the BBS games back in the 80's as well as those trips to the Arcades. I'd start the list with Pyroto Mountain, which could be played stand-alone or interactive between users on the board. BBS games were nearly endless in their varieties.

Spy Hunter!
by lawndart66 June 14, 2007 5:57 PM PDT
Cool soundtrack, power-ups that were gimmicky, but worked with the theme, and you could feel as much like James Bond as possible in public without raising concerns about your mental state.

Tron?
by HBFarker June 14, 2007 8:04 PM PDT
Tron was cool, but hardly deserves to be on the list. As others have mentioned: Galaga, Tempest and Missile Command are more worthy. They should have also included Millipede next to Centipede. DigDug and Xevious should get an honorable mention too.

How About Elevator Action?
by yfncg June 14, 2007 8:04 PM PDT
This one was one of my favorites. Great game play, addictive but cheesy graphics.

I loved Congo Bongo, Donkey Kong Jr. and Robotron as well. Ahh the good old days...

Who Could Forget Zaxxon

Zaxxon was so cool. One of the first 3D types of game. It was a lot of fun to play.

Yes to Zaxxon!
by dmm August 1, 2007 7:53 AM PDT
Definitely one of my favorites.
Interestingly, I never liked any of the ones picked by CNet as Top Ten (although I must admit that most other people did).
Zaxxon, ahh, the ultimate experience !!
by Eighties Dude August 10, 2007 5:25 AM PDT
I will never ever forget the Z !!
This was the only game that really
gave you 6 points of control & the
gun. This was the ultimate !!
Two Words: Street Fighter!
by yfncg June 14, 2007 8:09 PM PDT
One of the all time great fighting games. This one was the best for two player challenges.

Other classic fighters are Karate Champ and Yi Ar Kung Fu.

I agree 100%, galaga and gorf
by 8maxbass8 August 7, 2007 11:58 AM PDT
I spent many an hour at Galaga, and, for some reason, I was a Gorf MASTER! It was the one video game (I was a pinballer usually) where I was actually the one with a big crowd around cheering me on.
Bub and Bob

aka Bubble Bobble
My brother-in-law and I spent countless hours playing, we finally beat all 100 levels with bonus rounds. The bonus areas required no deaths to enter.

Where is Tempest?
by dwp June 15, 2007 8:25 AM PDT
By far the best game from the 80's and no one seems to ever remember to put it in a poll!

What gives? The very best was and is Dig Dug
by dlorraine June 15, 2007 2:17 PM PDT
Oh and throw in Bounty Bob. Pac Man and the others are OK but Dig Dug Rocks, and always has. Donky Kong and Joust were fun but I loved ole Bounty Bob. Why wern't dig dug and B.Bob on list?

I agree, Dig Dug was the best and still is
by bear740 June 15, 2007 10:09 PM PDT
I cannot believe that C/net left out Dig Dug, it was just a more fun game, you had control of how and where you went and was not as repetitive as the other games. I also want to clear up something about Pole Position, that was an Atari game that was found only on the Atari Computers and game systems until Atari released it to other systems. It was the number one game on the Atari computers, not Commodore.
