They did...
by AuriRahimzadeh November 27, 2005 8:41 PM PST
They did. It was called Pippin. It failed *miserably*. The product was purchased by Bandai. It ran a PowerPC 603 (not even a 603e!). I believe the speed was 75 MHz... very few were ever made. Quite a collectors item!

Yeah - so they can put a defective hard drive or battery in it!

Apple makes cool stuff - no doubt. But, they ship crap just like Microsquash does. Just look at the problems they have had with defective batteries and hard drives in their IPods.

Apple could do so much more if they'd fix their yield problems.
No problems here

I haven't had any trouble, and I've been playing my XBox for days. Streaming music from my PC, playing DVDs (it upconverts DVDs to hi-def nicely!), and the game play is a lot of fun (although I expect much better games to come - with destructible environments, please!). I've heard of overheating issues - make sure that power brick gets plenty of air, as stated very clearly in the manual (who reads those? <grin>).

I have been impressed by the interface, although the download manager needs to show the progress of downloads instead of just pausing them when you hit the Guide button.

The 360 has truly become a media hub in my home, nevertheless. Video sharing needs to be improved.

All in all, I'm impressed. I'm already looking at what "else" can be done with it! Where's the web browser - hopefully coming soon?

Upscaling DVD?
by aemarques November 28, 2005 9:24 AM PST
Sorry, but the Xbox360 does NOT upscales DVD to high-def! Not mine, anyway. Is yours a special one? ;-)

Not Surprised
by Kissmyne November 28, 2005 11:36 AM PST
Being as Microsoft does have a history of launching products both too soon and of a poor quality, I am not at all surprised that the XBOX 360 bombed. I never considered buying an XBOX 360, and this along with Microsofts "grand" history justifies why.

I hope Sony, and Nintendo learn from Microsoft's mistakes and continue making quality products. As for Microsoft, I feel that is beyond their ability.

No Kidding

When I think of "The Man" I think of Bill Gates, the greedy little corporate owner who couldn't care less about his products or his customers. All Microsoft cares about is getting their product out and making money, they don't care about the game industry. They were so caught up on getting this thing out early and advertising like crazy to make it the biggest thing this season they failed to miss one thing, the gamers, the ones that matter. The only people who will get the XBOX 360 are the spoiled brats who don't know anything about the system and the hardcore XBOX fans. Which will get Microsoft enough profits but it they really want to beat Sony and Nintendo in next generation they're going to have to step it up a knotch.

I like what MS is telling people who call...
by sunergeos November 29, 2005 11:36 AM PST
"...problems can be expected with a machine as complex as the
XBoox." I heard it reported over the weekend.

So let me see here, MS is saying that we are to expect problems
because they still have not found a way to build quality into their
products. In other words, it;s too hard for them.

Canadian XBox and American XBox are the same - you need a lot of patience to use them. If you can use them at all.
HUSH, DARLINGS... STOP COMPLAINING

Microsoft just went ahead of its usual ways and had the end users perform battery tests to their newly released XBoxed machines. So far, end users have reported consistent problems and these will be handled soon, hopefully before another guy decides filing a law suit would work.

Expect to download Service Pack 3.60 to fix crash problems.

As I would advise every avid Xboxed player -- "Hang" on.

If I get one I will tell you if it crashes or not. I was at best buy and the one I played locked up after about five minutes.

1-8004MYXBOX? RIGHT!!!
by DigitalChef December 9, 2005 1:16 PM PST
I'm sure they do want you to call 1-800-4MYXBOX. I owned one
of the old XBox consoles, had the warrantee and the whole nine
yards. Within a week of recieving it I started getting these same
crashing problems, i.e. error messages, freezing, skipping
repeatedly or not even loading at all. So, being the novice that I
was to the Microsoft world, I called the very same number. I
realized the naivete in my expectations of them very quickly.
They appologized for my inconvenience and then told me that I
would need to ship the unit to them, where they would take a
look at it and I would be charged a diagnosing fee of $98. The
operator then told me that if anything was found to be amiss
then there would be extra charges for labor and parts. This
makes you wonder what the warrantee is good for. It is my
experience that the only help their repair department offers is in
lightening your pocket book.

Microsoft screwed up
by socalstud10 April 3, 2006 2:42 AM PDT
Alright the number of 15% of people being unhappy with the xbox 360 because of problems with it is completely innacuate. The numbers are more likely in the 50% range. I have had two xbox 360s in the span of a week and both of my boxes have scratched my discs. The first one scratched my Call of Duty 2 disc in a nice circular pattern in the middle of the disc. The second scratched my other game, Oblivion in the same manner except in the outer part of the disc. I have never had a problem with my discs being scratched or dirty until xbox 360. My discs stay in the case or the xbox at all times except transfer of game to cover and box. Either I have really bad luck, or at least 25-30% of the 360s are defective and there should be a recall of all the boxes with defects and free boxes to those who had to put up with microsofts ********.

is it worth waiting for the ps3
by Davidethan April 4, 2006 2:59 PM PDT
The question has been posed to me by a reader, will the PS3 be as buggy as the Xbox 360? First, let's dispel some myths, the Xbox 360 hasn't had any more bugs than any other system at launch. The PS2 and Xbox both had DVD drive problems upon release. Yes, the Xbox 360 has had overheating problems, but they are nowhere near what the rumors have built them up to be. For a detailed explanation of the problem visit News.com . They have an excellent article dispelling some of the myths about the Xbox 360's problems. If you are wondering if you should wait for a PS3, don't let the rumors of Xbox 360 bugs be your reason. Look at the PS3's launch titles, it's specifications, and at how pretty it is. If you want a system with a Blu Ray disc drive (25-50 gigs as opposed to the Xbox 360's 8 gig discs), built in dual-monitor true HD support and so much more, then maybe you want to wait for a PS3. The PS3 is going to be the more powerful of the two systems, but you'll have to wait for Summer, or possibly even Winter to get your hands on one. Bottom line: don't let your purchase be guided by silly web rumors about the Xbox 360. Let the systems and games lead you to which console you buy.
