This is nothing new

Its the same with the dispute between Valve, the developer of Half-Life/Half-Life2/CounterStrike, and publisher Vivendi Universal Games.
The majority of the time, the developers are the ones that lose. That is one of the reasons why Valve, and many developers are thinking of moving into a self-publish and self-distribution online based business.

Agreed! If such a leap is made by developers to "go it alone" it would make it alot harder for developers to hide behind their publishers to deny support for some of their more screwed up games. Atari is notorious for referring gamers to developers sites where Atari is listed as the support website by the developer. A gamer "catch 22" if you will. We've all been there! Especially with console games.

A move like this would definitely improve the industry. The gaming industry is beginning to look like the Record label biz!
atari is gone...
