i'm terribly curious how much any of these systems are going to cost. A dual-core power5 processor by itself retails for a couple thousand (not that **** found in apple g5's - that's really just a single-core 64-bit g4). microsoft could simply absorb the loss of hundreds on each system sold, but niether sony nor nintendo can. Sony Corp. only takes in revenue of a couple billion a year at most and nintendo even less. It seems to me that everyone is gonna be stuck staring at the sign in best buy hanging above all three systems: "starting at just 999.99 (not including controllers/games/cables)"

Well I think a lot of people thinks the PS is going to be expansive... lest take a look...
Cell was a join development between 3 company IBM, Sony and Toshiba... economic of scale is going to help Sony this time... last time (PS2 emotion engine) was join develop with Toshiba only and most of the chip was used on PS2... This time Cell will be use in HD recorder, HD player, HD TV, PS3, render farm server, computer visualisation tools... Last year Toshiba demoed the Cell decoding 48 mpeg2 stream at the same time... and Sony demoed it decoding 15 HD 1080i video stream... the application of Call will be much bigger... helping to drive cost down. Blue is not really that expansive as a ROM drive... I think the technology only get expansive then it is a RW drive... my guess is Sony will be able to sale is around the 300US to 350 range... or even lower since, this time around they have MS playing prices war with them.
PSP is different, cause it's a lot more expansive make thing small and mobile... same issue with the situation with laptop and desktop... also, PSP has other expansive parts LCD screen and rechargeable battery...

rumors start pricing for xbox at launch $499. but if you want the best for for your buck, go with the NINREV it will be the only one starting in the sub 300's and it is library starts at SNES on(by download, unless they get smart and make an adapter for you computer for what you own already), then get the PS3 in nov 2006 just after the price drop and you wont feel like you dropped a ton o' dough in dec '05 and march '06. xbox game graphics should be up to par by then to be worth the purchase.
I highly doubt that, why buy a 360 for 500 bucks when you can get a PC for about the same price, besides 400 dollars is WAY too much for any console however beautiful the graphics are. When you consider that to take advantage of the full graphical capabilities of the thing you will have to plop down anouter 500 bucks for an HD monitor bringing the total package to about 1000 bucks, I think Microsoft is smarter than that.
If the new batch of consoles costs me any more than 350 I for one, won't be buying one, Ill just stick with my upgradable, flexible under 1000 dollar PC.
i see no reason to jump on the xbox bandwagon until they show off games worth playing on a console. i don't know how some of you can stand to play FPS games with a controller, it's the most awkward thing ever. with nintendo promising wifi internet play, xbox has lots its killer app.
at this point the only real console with a killer app is nintendo with their extreme backwards-compatibility feature. if it has even a modest hard drive, you could fit an incredible number of old games on it.
halo and gta are on pc, square is slowly opening their arms to other consoles, i don't see a single dominating factor besides that in any of the new consoles.
the power of the hardware is almost meaningless, games simply won't use it until near the end of it's production run. look at almost any system in history. launch titles always look like crap compared to the titles released before the next systems are rolled out.

is anyone a bit concerned about xbox being totally wireless with no rechargable docking station or the ability to plug in to a boost or bypass power source until you can change batteries? HEY GATES BATTERIES DIE!!!
just check the specs, they offer a corded version of the controller and a boost charger while you play. cant wait to see what can disrupts the signal. spec dont mention if you can turn off wireless. especially with four other frequencies to deal with.

One thing to keep in mind with Nintendo is connectivity (or whatever they call it now-a-days). Keeping with cartridges over the majority of systems may have been a good decision--if the back catalogue is available, it would be easy to download it onto flash memory or whatever and take the games with you on the GBA or GBMicro. I can picture the Revolution becoming less a home console and more a home hub where you sync up your mobile gaming device... kind of like an iPod.
