But are they still holding meetings?
by zaznet November 5, 2005 9:50 PM PST
It's more a reuinion than a 30th annual meeting. They used to hold these things much more often than once a year or once a decade. :)

thanks for the lack of photos

A photo or two couldn't have been attached to this story? As visually stunning the language is, a photo would help the article.

No mention of 2600 with the blue box?
by CyberWoLfman November 7, 2005 3:35 AM PST
Interesting that they didn't mention why the blue boxes worked, or how they worked. Hee hee hee

Oh, man, I miss my old Atari 2600. Helped out my hand to eye co-ordination, especially playing that space game. The one with the multi-level building was cool, too, as you could make the monsters invisible, and had to guess where they'd pop in at (almost always on the elevators), and I loved turning the score over and over again as I played it. Do I qualify as an ancient geek? LOL

Wai-Chung Bastien, the photos are here: http://news.com.com/2300-1042_3-5935889-1.html Think that the 2nd one has an Altair 8800 in it.

The seventh picture has a cake in it, with Woz cutting it. Surprised, really, that the cake wasn't bigger, and that they didn't use some icing tube things to make computer circuits using different colored icing. *Sighs* Humans have no imagination.

Is there a transcript anywhere of the speeches for this? Maybe with what they think of the computers that are out there now and the Internet with 3D chat programs (www.cyberwolfman.com/3d_chat.htm Not a real commercial site, mostly help pages and picture pages) and what they see the future of computing is going to be like? I'm hoping for systems with several exabytes of storage capacity, 100 Ghz CPUs, and VRD (Virtual Retinal Displays, which use low-powered lasers to 'paint' full-motion and full-colored images directly on your retinas) displays. But, I'm a dreamer...

In reference to your question about transcripts, here are links to the full audio of the panel as well as short videos of some of the panelists.

Btw, I liked your piece on 3D chat and was hoping you could visit with me at my own 3D community, which I think should be included.
Our platform is DigitalSpace Traveler, which I manage for the DigitalSpace Commons.

Nothing about the one guy who wouldn't share and threatened to sue anybody who did. Can you guess who that was?

Music video on 1979 Apple ][+
by stewdio November 9, 2005 4:00 PM PST
A vintage computer collector claimed he was going to show the
music video for Grandaddy's song "Jed's Other Poem" which was
made on a 1979 Apple ][+ with only 48K of RAM. Seriously. Were
any of you actually there? I'd love to know if it was played during
the conference! (7Mb QT video at http://www.stewdio.org/jed)
