Comments on: Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: I don't care who wins!

Outside of the protagonists and their immediate families, does anyone really give a darn who comes out on top? CNET News.com's Charles Cooper sure doesn't.

My question?

Why would anyone spend money on an HD format when you can upconvert your existing DVD's to 1080p? I really have no idea on this, does someone know a bit more than I do about upconversion?

I don't plan on buying either

When you have a HD DVR, you don't really need either one of these devices. I actually might buy a Sony Blue Ray player some day in the future if they incorporate it into a "Jukebox" format like my current Sony DVD Jukebox. I wouldn't even think about getting a single disc DVD Player. The only thing that I would get in a DVD today is Concert Videos. I haven't bought a DVD for well over a year, and can't imagine any DVD purchases in the near future. I'm sure that Blue Ray will be major player in the future, but the total market for one of those might be fairly weak!!!!!
