I suppose cells have their place...

...but I rarely use the Virgin Mobile pay-as-you-go phone that I picked up on sale for about $20. Although all the minutes roll over forever and the minimum requirement to keep the number active is to purchase just $15 talk time each 90 days, every minute costs 25 cents (10 cents after ten minutes in one day). Not bad, but it still doesn't seem real worthwhile to call for low importance topics such as "what kind of bread should I buy" while at the grocery. Now, what those fools are talking about while driving I have no idea, but imagine that it is certainly not important enough to risk causing accidents. Those folks are probably just trying to use up their minutes. Typical $50/month plans seem too pricey to be much of a good value. Similar plans in Hong Kong cost no more than about $12. Those who purchase phones "for emergency use" should realize that even an old unactivated phone can still be used to dial 911. Now with smarter phones like Apple's iPhone those devices are basically a very portable computer, and offer a lot of amazing capability. For those who need or want cell communications, power to you! But please use it safely, responsibly and with good etiquette!
