Just for fun read the title of the article and then read the last
paragraph:

Title: Palm Responds to the iPhone.


Last P.: The Wall Street Journal reported that Palm had retained
Morgan Stanley to explore options, including the sale of the
company. Palm declined to comment.

Palm is "responding" to the advent of the Apple iPhone, i.e.:
trying to improve their product IN LIGHT OF THE IPHONE'S
EXISTENCE AND THE THREAT IT POSES TO PALM's MARKET.

The headline was not meant to say that Palm spoke to anybody,
or it would have said "Palm CEO responds to the iPhone" or
something.

Remember when Apple attempted to buy Palm before Microsoft WinCE based Palm Treo phones & Palm wanted an "extrodinary price" from what Apple stated after the sale fell through?

Hmmm... Now the Apple iPhone & deal with Cisco has occured & Palm wakes up & realizes that they sold their soul to the Devil in Redmond & starts being "innovative again" just like Redmond did with iPod / Zune & Mac OSX / Vista OS.

Ditching my Treo as soon as iPhone is for sale.

neat, but is it useful?

We've all watched the demonstrations, and yes the iPhone is "neato", but onscreen keyboards and novel interfaces aside, it is not clear who is going to pay so much money for a device that isn't sure if it is a phone, music player, mac, or PDA? Palm's systems have accepted, mature applications for all sorts of uses-- from medicine to ordinary calendar management. The thumb keyboard and grafiti have stuck with consumers. Frankly, between this and a close reading of the '34 securities act, I am selling my Apple.

I guess you would like to carry an armload of devices rather than
one? The iPhone is set to be better at being a phone, music
player, or PDA than any currently available options. As far as it
being a Mac, yes, it will be a small pocket sized computer, but
not one that is meant to replace a laptop or desktop.

Go ahead and sell your Apple stock. I'm sure someone would
love to buy it from you.

When you watch the presentation for the iphone, you are immediately affected by the "reality distortion field" that Jobs naturally generates. Anything he does or says seems out of this world or even god like. It's like watching a preacher give a sermon to the faithfull.

The iphone is "Cool". It has "Cool" oozing out of every nook and cranny and people will buy it, but from a practical business point of view, don't expect big business to let go of their crackberries any time soon.

10+ years the same Palm interface - why change now?

Hey, Palm, why not just go for a full 15 years without changing

The last palm design worth something...

I think the best palm design is the m500 series. Any palm after
that one seem to have lost that elegant and premium on it. I think
the Palm OS is good when it doesn't crash. I had a NR70V and i
used it until i couldnt' stand its constant crashing and make me
lost important data. I doubt i will be getting the first iphone as i
dont see it as an elegant design. Well, compare to the Prada
phone. I doubt north america will get the Prada phone in anyway.
I will settle with a KE820 when tigerdirect carries it.
