  • On GameSpot: So-called 'Halo killer' gets 23 to life

Comments on: Early bird to get the PS3, then resell it

In the line for Sony's new console, just try to find anyone waiting to play it, not put it on eBay.

Sony's missing an opportunity...

If Sony was really smart about it, they would have short-circuited the resale market (not to mention made a handsome profit) by directly putting the first 50,000 units up for sale on eBay to the highest bidder, and releasing the remaining consoles for general sale in two to four weeks...

Except...

Except that it would make a lot of people angry, and with the way
things have gone so far, I don't think they can afford a whole lot
more bad PS3 publicity at this point.
Brilliant!

You know, camping in line outside of a major retailer to pay $500 for a PS3; and then turn around and sell it on ebay making over $1000 profit, is not a bad days work...

Although, it seems to me that everyone is doing this, meaning someones going to get stuck with a $500 console they don't want (and possibly can't afford).

It'll be interesting to check ebay tommorrow morning and see how many results are returned for the keyword "PS3"...

Makes me wish I'd spent time in line
by Dr. B November 16, 2006 10:14 PM PST
Just checked, and as of 12:11 AM CDT, PS3 has 3,751 items. Not all
of them are for actual PS3s, mind you, but still.

Almost makes me wish I'd stood in line and tried to make a profit.
thanks guys

Just to point out, that the gaming community does not consider these 'line-waiters' to be gamers. They've been referred to as such, and quite frankly it's an insult.

These are opportunists. Plain and simple. While I (and as do many) applaud their brilliant and well reasoned arguments about buying-and-reselling, I must object to them being labeled with the very group they've set out to destroy.

I've personally been planted in all three waiting queues...XB 360, PS3, and Wii. Of the three, only one group had intentions on actually playing their system: Wii.

So buy these over-priced PlayStations and XBOXES, and continue to make them even more overpriced still. That's your right, and I certainly respect that. I applaud you, even, as nothing makes a common middle-American more happy than to see an overly rich person being seperated from their excessive cash... I'd love to see that action.

But these people are not gamers. Far from it.
