USA Today column joke?
by December 21, 2005 11:52 AM PST
Kind of a joke, right? In my line of work, USA Today columns, even if they are "technology" columns, are NOT technology news.

Could someone please tell me what is so important about what
some columnist said about some CEO? Where's the NEWS in that?

Apple is just getting warmed up...

With the prospects of an Apple PVR/DVR media center, iPhone,
continued iPod innovations and Intel inside computers that can run
multiple operating systems (OS X, Windows, Linux), I believe Steve-
O can make it a few more years without getting 'hosed'.

Steve > tech industry.

Simple, 2006 is going to be amazing for Apple. I knew I should have bought stock int he company four years ago when I switched. Although, I was poor and couldn't afford to buy stock. Now that I'm making a decent living, the stock has gone way up!

Where is the prediction?
by Dineshbabu December 21, 2005 12:18 PM PST
If you are talking about the last line of the post which says about someone finding malicious software in iTunes then there is no prediction at all! The rest of the post is some rambling on what generally is happening in the Techworld. He just captioned it with a catchy title to attract readers!

Yes, he keeps coming out with such lousy and unpopular hardware

worst story read all day
by dezago December 21, 2005 12:47 PM PST
I think that this was quite possibly the worst "news" article I have read all day and quite possibly all week. I really did not expect something like that from USA Today. There was no basis for anything in that column. It sounded instead more like an amateur tech blog that a junior high student could have written just by doing a headline search on google.

oh boy the Apple Trolls are crying already
by mcepat December 21, 2005 1:05 PM PST
waaa waaa, don't speak about our god like that Steve Jobs can do no wrong ever, I mean ever.

he does one thing wrong, manages to sell propietary music players that can only purchase music from a propietary music store that only allows one player to use its service. And makes machines that come bundled with all there own applications which hurts third party app makers.

gimme a frigan break

APPLE=SIMPLE HOLD YOUR HAND OS FOR SIMPLE PEOPLE

sorry gotta go, here come the trolls

My Apple stock is up over 700%.

Nobody needed to hold my hand on that one...I did the math all by
my wittle self.
Wrong, Buddy...
by lesfilip December 21, 2005 3:01 PM PST
The iPod is not a "proprietary" music player. It will play mp3s
and many other formats just fine. Just not WMA, which is... yes...
proprietary.

iTunes was derived from a third party app that Apple bought.
Doesn't sound like they got "hurt" in the process of raking in
some buyout money.

iTunes is free for Windows and Mac. It works with more players
than just the iPod. You can look at the Apple web site yourself if
you don't believe me. The only restriction is on those songs
purchased through the Music Store, which can only be played on
the iPod or on your computer. Then again, your WMA files
behave the same way... they only play where Napster wants them
to.

So there, YOU gimme a friggin' break, little troll boy!

Bundled software?
by December 21, 2005 3:20 PM PST
Wow. Talk about WINDOWS FANBOY.

You do realize any app that comes with OS X can be thrown in the trash and never used again, right? Oh, wait, you don't because you're a windows fanboy.

Proprietary music format? Yeah, like Apple is the only one. But wait, what's that? There's no one in the automobile industry that supports Creative Zen players? There's more support from third party hardware and accessory makers that make products for the iPod than any other device? Wait a second, you mean to tell me that you can use music you already owned in iTunes, have the sleekest interface, most options, and least costly legal music downloads around with an Apple product?!

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Go back to your cave, troll.

Can you say Command Line? But then you are probably using
Windows so CLI is most likely an unknown term to you. As for your
remark about simple people using OS X, I was probably working
with computers while you were still in diapers. And most of the flak
is from people trying to figure out how the article is news.

software products that actually WORK!

A powerful, elegant, intuitive, easy-to-use, attractive, flexible, and
easy-to-develop-for operating system that delivers
groundbreaking applications and the best computing experience
ever is just more than some people can handle.

I said it before and I'll say it again...

you get a point for your comment being a self fullfilling prophecy.... though of course when you post a wide ranging insult it is bound to get those who oppose it to respond...so you lose two points for the bait.

BUT really, all this Apple V MS high school playground ******** is getting old so I guess I need to find a different site where people actually want to TALK about stuff instead of being FANBOYS (OF ANY O/S)

peace out losers

Alright mate, I'm gonna rip into you, because I'm young, and
dumb, and full of ***. If you want to talk about Proprietary we
could bring up the horror that is wma, and wmv. and
APPLE=SIMPLE HOLD YOUR HAND OS FOR SIMPLE PEOPLE

look, maybe I don't want to have to trouble shoot my machine
everytime I open an e-mail, or play a video, or download porn.
Don't know about you, but I am not fond of Virus's or spam, or
the blue screen of death, so skip the chatter, you know you'll be
a switcher whence comes the MACTEL. Mac OSX already has
been shown to run on peecee hardware, and actually
benchmarks are shown that it works comparably better on the
laptop platform. So speak your mind of your rubbish, but pay
no mind when suddenly all of your peecees get infected with the
cease and desist virus and fall apart. Windows = Weakness.
Unix = Strength. Mac= Pretty Unix ;)

ps please do not
speak hearsay against our god, he's the only one we've got, and
we can't afford to replace him, the republican's don't allow
cloning. ;)

I think Mr Maney is just suffering from sour grapes. I believe that accidents happen along the line of least resistance. Clearly, with Jobs that is north.

Really, I guess with the impending Holiday weekends just around the corner, some writers just throw anything up on the screen to get out of the office early! I work at a large market news paper and I know how it is!

But, Please! Write something slightly inteligent and note worthy.

I agree with you. It was short and transparent. A trend does not support the specifics stated in that article. I've not used the MAC, but I do understand the feelings of those that do as I once had an "underdog" computer from a maker that is no longer in existence. What the author doesn't understand is markets can work like an engine, not all pistons firing at the same time. So goes it with technology. Not everything is hot all the time. I think Mr. Jobs has done a good job of aligning the products to when they're hot and when they're not.

I Predict Keven Maney and USA Today ...
by Joe Blow December 21, 2005 2:04 PM PST
have already been "hosed" for a very long time. Exactly what products have this non-being (much less non-journalist) and his management been responsible for developing and marketing? Next thing you know, they'll be dissing Bill Gates for being a rich nerd, or Larry Ellison for being a rich cad! Oh, the humanity!

C|Net, please obliterate this "article" and these posts, so that we can pretend that this all never happened (which, for all intents and purposes, hasn't, in the Big Scheme of Things).

It's a good thing it's a slow day here at my job, too, or I wouldn't have anything to rant about, either!

All the Best,
Joe Blow

It's the difference between Apple annoucing new software and new
innovative products and Microsoft annoucing what they hope to do
next year and how great and 'Rich' it's going to be.

Apple actually does it, Microsoft actually don't.

Thank you.
popularity the stakes have never been higher
by Carlco December 22, 2005 6:34 AM PST
we will see how much support apple and devs give old ppc
based systems on the release of intel based systems. Quite
frankly the worlds gone mad if you can patenet something as
ridiculous as a 3 pane browser window (ie itunes) apple do like
keeping hold of things, kind of reminds me of the seagull's in
nemo (mine! mine!) the way the mobile phone market is moving
on ipods without ability to browse the net or call your friends
will relegate it to another mp3 player. itunes will just be another
music store online 'thats a little more tricky to get to browse'.
Having said that, I believe that rather than losing popularity this
could be jobs' finest year yet, with the long anticipated wait of
the new bill gates offering being anything like XP's first release,
it could trigger a huge exodus from the windows platform, apple
and linux are now well positioned to take advantage of a much
more net / computer savvy user base. mr jobs better relise that
with power comes responsibility trying to control the entire
music world isn't going to happen if he would like to try and
start that little game he better make an offer on AOL-Time
Warner & Sony, then Apple may indeed stand a chance. Much
better to concentrate on his current user base because those
people are the best marketing force he's got. If or when
microsoft mess up (its so predictable isnt it?) job's needs to be
at the throat of bill showing off his happy user base and fully
integrated and seemless transition to intel. Its going to be an
interesting 2006 indeed.

And don't start with the Windows/'nix/mac BS, I couldn't care less what OS you use.
