In the case of off-brand LCD's who makes the actual screen? I do not see a need to buy a Samsung LCD for $10,000+ dollars when you can get a WestingHouse 30" for 1200 or less. Westinghouse doesnt make the LCD they buy it from Samsung

do you know why Apple's LCD displays are so good? They hand pick from the same companies everyone else buys from. When you're the manufacturer you pick the best displays (they're not all identical... some crops are better than others). When you buy westinghouse or whatever you're paying bottom dollar for a screen they paid even less for. I wouldn't trust the bottom of the pile... but then again... every here and there a good one sneaks through. probability would say pay more, but you might get lucky.

Whoever wrote this piece couldn't use the same units of length. Hence the combination of inches and centimeters.

I grew up in England and experienced decimalization, weather converting from F to C, gas being sold in liters instead of gallons (imp.). But what was really a bit tough was dealing with people who didn't know whether to use metric or imperial units - PICK ONE ;-)

What's the point period???

Why should I spend all that money on something like this when due to the entertainment industry's decree that they are the only ones legally able to handle the media, I end up with no control at all on a $10,000 tv? What would be the point? Samsung can keep this thing. I'll go to the local pawnshop and get a slightly used tv that I'm sure they can't control.

All current research has shown that OLED, once fully developed,
will be the cheapest display technology since CRT, obviously with
much higher resolution and able to reach much larger sizes.
