"The user interface on the other MP3 players I've used at the gym just don't cut it."

He does know the shuffle doesn't have an LCD right? It has 4 buttons and the playback is random. Its basically a thumb drive that playes songs. Thats how they are able to charge $99. (I assume he is refering to the aforementioned non-apple flash based players).

Correction: Random or sequential

You can either play them random or sequential. Also you can load up a specific playlist if tunes if you want. At $100 I may get one as well. I own an iPod but taking it with me to the gym...its somewhat of a clumsy device to dink with while you work out.

How were you screwed?

A little more background information on how Apple screwed you
would help others to undestand where you're coming from.
