You are mis-stating the facts. Microsoft did not ship the handhelds - they provide the OS. Palm shipped more handhelds than MS because, again, MS doesn't ship handhelds.

Also, not include the Treo sales is falsifying the facts further. The Treo cleaned up on the handheld/phone market - hands down.

Speaking of mis-stating facts:

1. The writer wrote that Microsoft "...has a firm grip on the handheld software market..." It doesn't say anywhere that Microsoft itself ships handhelds.

2. There is no "Palm" anymore. Palm Inc. has since become palmOne and PalmSource. PalmSource is the company responsible for the Palm OS, and palmOne is responsible for the handhelds.

I guess we can expect a new market of exploits and viruses and a new market of expensive security software.
