Dell Laptop power adapter recall
by October 11, 2004 3:13 PM PDT
I have one of the affected adapters. I was also the recipient of
recalled batteries earlier that were defective. Does anyone know
if the defective batteries and defective power adapter could in
any way have been responsible for the "premature" (just out of
warranty) failure of my motherboard and what can be done short
of a $700 replacement

failed motherboard...

Hi there --

I don't know about the battery and powercord problems, but I too thought my motherboard was fried...until I found out it was just the powercord jack at the back inside of my laptop.

I found a place online that sold me the jack for around $10, then took it to a local shop and they soldered it on for me and removed the old one for about $69; laptop works fine now! I'm just really careful to hold something under my laptop on my lap, or use it on a table, so the power cord no longer hangs and "stresses" the jack.

Hope this got to so you can try and see if that was the issue before chucking your laptop!
trouble with dell computer

I know this has been awhile but I just started looking at things about the dell laptops and I want to know if the problems that you had are the same as what I had and if you found any resolve. I paid 2700.00 for a dell inspiron and an extended warranty. My battery wouldn't hold a charge (never knew it was recalled) and Dell had my address. Then the power cord seemed to quit working so I bought a replacement adapter. Then the mother board started having problems as well. At that time the extended warranty had just ran out. So I quit using it for awhile. Just recently my daughter entered college so I was looking up replacement parts for the laptop and found out the adaptor had been recalled. Again dell still had my addy on file and never contacted me. I know you posted awhile ago so I hope I hear from you.

thanks
