Wireless carriers still not getting it.
by jamie.p.walsh November 30, 2004 12:28 PM PST
Technology like this will never amount to much for the majority of their users because it is not meant for it. Those people who use cellular data networks for mobility WANT this kind of power. Sure they don't want or need it for their blackberry or smartphones, but those who use pcmcia cards for wireless notebook access would LOVE it. That is a niche market that carriers fail to go after more aggressively. They can bring it to the mass market if they accept it. Current EV-DO and other "broadband" cellular technologies are too slow and unpredictable. GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!!!

Nextel largest 2.5 GHz license holder
by December 1, 2004 4:39 PM PST
Nextel last year spent only $200 mil in bankruptcy purchases of Worldcom's and NuCentrix's 2 GHz license rights. They are now
largest rightsholder in this band ahead of Sprint, BellSouth and Clearwire, a Craig McCaw controlled entity. Nextel does not yet own any
1.9 GHz licenses though it is likely it will soon
accept the FCC terms for a nationwide 10 MHz grant as part of the 800 MHZ public safety swap
that will give it 16 congtiguous spectrum there.
