My interview with Craig Newmark
by Don_Dodge February 2, 2006 5:52 AM PST
Two days ago I published an interview "10 questions with Craig Newmark of Craigslist" on my blog. Here is an excerpt.
As the web became a place for commerce and making huge fortunes craigslist remained private and free. No ads, no fees (except for job listings), and no IPO. craigslist could have been eBay or something similar, and could have won fame and fortune for Craig Newmark. He has no regrets, and is still "plugging away" at craigslist. I had a chance to talk with Craig recently about his experiences and he agreed to be interviewed for The Next Big Thing.

Without a doubt, Craigslist is one of the simplest, most effective websites ever.

Good Site

Craigslist does a better job than the other sites
because it does not advertise. So far, they
have been successful at keeping scammers and
similar people off of their site.

In San Francisco, craigslist was word-of-mouth
for many years, and the fact that a share rental
was advertised there meant that they were "our
kind of people".

It disturbs me when magazines like Fortune are
aware that Craigslist exists. Its kind of like
that bad feeling you got when Newsweek found out
about Burning Man. . .

Time, Fortune, and Business Week should stick to
Yahoo and msn.

craigslist marketing

Craigslist is great. Ive been using a craigslist posting tool http://www.craygo.com to post to the craigslist real estate/housing sections. I thought I'd share the tip with you. With the craigslist tool you can easily post to all top cities, or stay within the top listing of one city.
