I couldn't get into Drudge yesterday but can today. Did he re-route?
This is reeking Havoc on a lot in the internet world.
I cant understand why you guys cant get past the problems and resolve this Quikly.
I have Earthlink Dial up, and it's causing a lot of problems for Earthlink Customers!!
I will/am in the process of sending a Boycott to all of my Yahoo groups to Boycott Level 3 because of this.
I'm not affiliated in any way with cogent, neither do I own Stock in either company, but I do know people who own stock, and will let them know to sell their stock out of your company.
Like I said, it's causing a Lot of problems in the internet world.
Some websites I cannot even veiw because of this!!
Please resolve this problem.
Thank you.
and Why would it, if it's a local service?
Yes, 911 is local, but for those who don't know about VoIP, 911 calls have to go through a relay system to get to your local emergency office.
Reminds me of the DirecTV / Disney blow-out a year or two back.
The man I spoke to was very pleasant, understanding and was taking aback slightly when he asked "Are you a Cogent customer?" to which I replied "No. I am a hosting company customer than has their servers at a dc that is on a backbone from Cogent"
I mentioned the fact that the Cogent website (www.cogentco.com) has no mention of the situation in the press release or news area. He said he just talked to someone in marketing about the situation and will call them and suggest this to them because "It's a real good suggestion" and he was "Suprised to find there was no mention of it in the press releases"
I told him I felt like "An airline passenger put out because the airlines can not fly because the air traffic controllers are on strike" and he liked that analogy a lot.
His view? That Level3 should have not done this without notice and should not be the big bully on the playground.
Oh yea, he's reading the coverage.
The hits just keep on coming...
Before the service was terminated the routing should have been updated (assuming they were warned it would happen), since the service is still down someone should have fixed the incorrect routing by now and the fact they haven't makes it likely that Cogent has failed to perform their duty since it's their routers which are still trying to send traffic in a direction which is no longer possible.
The fact that they haven't fixed their routing says they are trying to use their customers to force a reconnection.
Cogent is a positive force on the Internet. They are bringing down bandwidth prices. The quality of their service is excellent and their technical support shines too.
Level-3 on the other hand is a brutish, old-fashioned, monopoly-wannabe. They are trying to control the internet. They have always pushed around other companies. Their arrogance is matched only by their business incompetance.
It's important the public come out against Level-3 and for Cogent.
Cogent can make our lives better. Level-3 will make our lives worse.
Level-3 is the enemy of the internet and the people.
Level-3 also mistreats their own employees. They threat their workers like numbered slaves.
Please get involved in the fight.
My concern is that my ISP/hosting co/DC/etc is being affected and they are not the ones causing an issue. There's several layers to this, with Cogent and Level 3 being at the top of the list. It all flows downhill.
Wonder how long before other outlets talk about this. I can't believe I am saying this but I am looking forward to "Attack of the Show" on G4 tonight to see if they mention it at all. I've not been a fan of the show that replaced ScreenSavers but that's neither here nor there.
As electronic service networks collide, the downside is the effect on e-commerce. That should not happen in a perfect world but this year of cyber ID theft has taught us the world especially online is anything but perfect.
It is an unfortunate result of network disputes that sometimes spill into courts but are about real or suspected damages either caused or supsected to be caused by their opposition.
More and more disputes are on the horizon as more and more e-commerce solutons are used to stop cyber crime and make the Internet a Safe Place Online or as people seek Peace Of Mind Online.
That is why there has to be not only global solutions but global platforms that effect everyone in such a way that disputes are handled offline and not by denial of services.
These coming global platforms are obviously American Express, Visa, MasterCard and in the future NewCashtm that will go everywhere and give the charge card user a cart that travels network to network without being blocked by competing networks.
The future is here now and has in fact been here for five years but the present problems are forcing everyone to get it all together in a cohesive way. No more blackouts is essential for the growth of e-commerce.
A year ago, January 2006, EDI Secure LLLP was purchased by IDPixie LLC which owns the patent US 6,598,031 B1 granted on July 22, 2003 for APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ROUTING ENCRYPTED TRANSACTION CARD IDENTIFYING DATA THROUGH A PUBLIC TELEPHONE NETWORK from inventor Jeffrey Ice. So to update EDI Secure LLLP's place in the marketplace, I add the above and below data.

This article really made me sit up and take notice because it introduced items into the equation I was not aware of. Suggest you check it out before you take sides.
These arrangements have been unregulated because the ISP's played well with eachother.
My guess is that Level 3 just invited the goverment in to regulate the industry for the protection of the consumer. This means stifled growth and hard-wired concepts. Start expecting some technical legalese to come, the FCC should arrive any day now.
Know internet protocols and are a lawyer? You're potential has just gone 10-fold!
The government's job is to protect those who can't protect themselves. We pay and we expect good service.
These guess are playing chicken and they forgot to swerve.
http://www.dhs.gov via telephone at 202-282-8000 to report Level 3 as committing a terrorist attack on the Internet commerce of The United States Of America.
They directed me to The United States Emergency Computer Response Team at : http://www.us-cert.gov/ and I telephoned them at 888-282-0870. They were very kind and understanding and know of the problem. They asked that I file an incident report on their website here :
http://www.us-cert.gov/
They said that once an incident report is filed then they can contact Level 3 to determine if the attack is intentional.
I suggest to anyone whose business is being damaged by Level 3's terror attack on the United States to please contact the United States Computer Emergency Response Team and file an incident report right away!

- Road Runner in Cincinnati is affected, as certain websits are impossible to get to, but their rival Zoomtown DSL is not. I'm switching.
