Promoting a True Broadband Service
by April 15, 2004 7:32 AM PDT
It was very encouraging to read this article. Here is a guy who seems to be promoting a real 21st century fiber-based broadband alternative to the Baby Bell's and CableCo's, which is certainly why they are so concerned by his efforts. No mention of the BPL dinosaur, a system doomed to early extinction by its inherent technical limitations and propensity to generate serious levels of radio interference.

Broadcast Power Line using Wireless tech
by jluchford April 29, 2005 5:30 AM PDT
The latest Broadcast Power Line research stories mention using WiFi communications on telephone poles, much the same as "Wireless" phones use Cell Phone towers. It's the same WiFi idea of Starbucks, McDonalds, etc., only paid for by the Power companies who charge for the service, or by municipalites who simply add communication taxes.

The "Bells" and cable companies are aggresively marketing communication services. They can't afford MORE competion.
Missleading Headline
by April 20, 2004 10:11 PM PDT
Your headline "Jim Baller is no friend of the large cable companies or the Babt Bells that dominate local telecommunications markets around the country" Is certainly missleading, Mr. Baller's stand is very clear and straight forward.
He belives that as diverse as out nation is that the telecom/braodband woes we face will need diverse solutions and tha municipalities should be entitled to act when the private sector has not to secure their quality of life and economic futures.
The big monopolies dont like that view and may not consider him a friend, but I know he harbors no ill will agianst them, only their heavy handed tactics, lies, bribes, intimidation, etc.

He is a true champion for fairness, open competition and the free agesny of cities to determine their own futures.

ROCK ON JIM!!!
