From an ATT contact of mine ... "The radio on the 3G has a max over the air speed of 3.6Mbps and the 3GS has a 7.2Mbps radio. However the AT&T network is only transmitting between 700Kbps ? 1.7Mbps. So both devices are limited by the AT&T network not the iPhone."

ATT get your $!@#!@# together!

haha now ATT wants to improve its 3G network......years behind Sprint and VZW......which both operate the best 3g networks in the US...but again if iphony users want to spend more money on there monthly service fee and marginal service...than so be it !!!!!

I have to say I've owned each iteration of the iphone from day one and I have noticed the 3g signal coverage has gotten better over time so AT&T must be doing something. it would have been nicer a year ago but whatever. I've also had service with most major cell phone providers and they all have good areas and bad. I live in Chicago.

I love it. More and more articles about how AT&T is 'improving' their 3G service.

Meanwhile, my area is still EDGE and I am forced to pay for 3G.

I wonder if there is a class action lawsuit in there somewhere?

too little too late indeed. after my whole family and most of our friends ditched att for verizon like 8 years ago, my bro decided to give them another shot with the 3gs. several days late on delivery, and several hours of activation hell later, he's sitting at his house with an occasional "No-service" display on his shiny, new, glorified Ipod Touch with a data plan. In less than a year, when iPhone goes to big V, even with handcuffs, the item/service will finally be ripe. and apple will be asking themselves what they were thinking for waiting so long.

Holy Moly! AT&T goes from really bad to worse!! We are use to the drop calls, but now we cant even get a signal at all in our home all weekend. All you see is searching! Call AT&T to see if something was going on, they have NO, ZERO customer service on Sundays! Just blows my mind.

My friend tells me all the time. A phone has to be a phone first. Apple by restricting use to AT&T does not allow this. Time to give up the iPhone.
