In other words, the cell phone industry has decided not to embrace the "standard" charger for every other device. My cell phone (blackberry) currently uses the same mini-USB as my audio recorder, GPS, Sony eBook reader, etc.
So it sounds like I'm going to have to get a new charger since my next cellphone will no longer conform to the mini-USB "standard".
Am I missing something here? It sounds like the cellphone industry is bucking the new standard (although all doing it together).

- i've been curious as to why they only expect a majority of phones to have this by 2012. is it really that difficult to put a usb charger into a phone that they need 3 years to work out the kinks? i've seen devices for sale that plug into the wall and have a usb port to charge devices that normally recharge from usb. this technology exists. 2012? and only a majority of phones? seriously?
