Ten dollars a month! I'd rather by another Garmin and use Google Maps when I'm not in the car.

Someone will surely add an app to enhance Google Maps with Street View, to provide us with turn-by-turn voice nav, and charge just a one-time fee (major updates for a smaller fee and minor updates for free).

I'd do it, but I'm not a programmer. :P

There is an agreement the the terms of service with 'google maps' that the data can not be used for turn by turn directions.

There is a program called "AndNav" that was doing just what you wanted, but due to the rule above they were not able to get it done. Now the AndNav program is dependent on the server being hosted with all the mapping data. They have a server in Europe, but in America $$$$ has become an issue.

Server hosting is expensive.

Not with the crap maps that Teleatlas supplies to Google, with data years out of date... And Google's routing algorithm leaves me wondering what they're smoking...

Seriously, when will these mobile companies learn. Why in the world would I want to pay 10 dollars a month for as long as I own my phone when I can purchase a GPS device for a one time fee? Garmin charges a one-time fee of $100 for their Windows Mobile. For the cost of 10 months of TeleNav, I can have Garmin's tried and true turn-by-turn database on my device with no need for data connections. Since the average lifespan of a phone is about two years, this Garmin software pays for itself more than twice over. In addition, if your new phone were to run WinMo, you could use the software on that phone, too. This is ridiculous.

I refuse to pay monthly for a GPS phone service. When you are paying $30 a month for data I think they can squeeze in turn-by-turn GPS.

Agreed about the subscription model. garmin for blackberry is $99 for the life of the phone. If you hunt for a discount code you can get it for $79. Truthfully, I hate the ota service. Let me load my maps on my 16 gb data card so I dont have to rely on data service. Just like Tom Tom for Winmo.
