Experts say that Skype is a bright spot in eBay's portfolio, and it will take a hefty offer for the company to sell.

Skype , Amazon MP3 , Hulu , and a few other services are the only reason I`m willing to pay for broadband.
Skype was also named as one of the few services making money in a down economy.

I hope Google buys Skype for two reasons:

1). Google Talk + GrandCentral + Skype = Powerful Combination

2). To spite Microsoft

I agree. I always saw Google as a better owner of Skype than eBay. It doesn't really help eBay's main mission.

Totally. If Microsoft bought it I would drop it faster than when Comcast purchased TechTV and merged it with G4.

I think it would be a great asset to the Windows Live Essentials suite. Microsoft doesn't really have a robust consumer VOIP solution.

Ebay ruined Paypal. You used to be able to do like everything with it.... Paybills, Utilities, etc. now it is pretty much Ebay centred.

I see Google as a potential suitor because it would create a huge opportunity for their ad network to allow a web user to talk directly to a supplier by clicking on a Skype enabled ad. Although it might be better value for Google to build their own technology for this.

Skype uh, maybe, but there's plenty of other programs for personal use:
If you want to make cheap calls to fixed or mobile lines use voipbuster, nonoh, or any of the betamax clones. Cheaper than skype.
If you want to videoconference just use one of the many messenger programs like ooVoo.
