I think the way Verizon is going about selling the Storm has had an impact on sales.

Unlike Apple, where you could buy a phone from the Apple store, Verizon has chosen NOT to have the phones available at the stores. Instead you go in and order one. I'm told that if you order one today, it won't be shipped til December 15th.

Thanks, but I don't need a phone that badly. I'll wait til they are available in stores.

Going with one provider exclusively is a bad strategy. I was looking forward to the launch of the Storm. However, as it's now only available through Verizon I will get an iPhone instead. Reading hightechnh's comment, it seems that Verizon was indeed not RIM's wisest decision.

It seems to be working out for the iPhone and for the Razr originally, as well as other phones. I don't think it's a bad strategy from a business perspective.

Economic troubles huh? So it has nothing to do with a certain company named after what keeps the doctor away then. Oh RIM is in denial.

jiri_novak nailed it.

I'd like to modify it a bit, though: A combination of the iPhone on the consumer side, and the aforementioned slump in gadget buying on the corporate side, has RIM in a pretty bad place right about now.

That said, they do still make income from BES and BE network licensing... but if/when the iPhone start charging through the enterprise, RIM is pretty much toast.
