Would be nice to have my very own WIMAX router and point it at my office door so I can use my own bandwidth when I feel like it.

WiFi & Long Distance?... "But because of its short range, these deployments require a lot of radios" NOT TRUE! actually WiFi can go the same distance as WiMax and currently WiFi is faster than WiMax.
What is true is that are NO $$$$ in WiFi for Intel's WiMax plan. Intel has pumped Billions into WiMax with hopes to own the market. Intel $$$$$$ Clearwire out of their 1st IPO with the provision they push WiMax and sold off Clearwires working wireless solution to Motorola.
*Intel "Leap ahead"
EtherLinx demo'd long range WiFi to Craig Barrett/Intel in 2002

Marguerite Reardon wrote: "WiMax uses licensed spectrum, typically in the 2.5MHz range."

This is incorrect. That is 2.5 Ghz, not Mhz.

They are coming up with second version of WiMax already???? Just when people at Sprint decided to spend billions of $$$$ on the newest technology out there....they come up with something even better and you are outdated before you even finish with implantation of existing project! I just hope that it will not be hard to upgrade...other way CIO of Sprint could start looking for new job. Shareholders care only about their bottom line!

From what I've experienced, and people I've talked to the real world speeds of EVDO Rev.A (and Rev.0 for that matter,) are about double what this article posted. Getting much below 1Mbps is uncommon. Hitting 2Mbps isn't all that uncommon when trying at off-peak times like in the middle of the night.

I live overseas, but I'm very interested in the 4G technologies.

I've read an article that mentioned that Sprint Wimax # of customers was below expectations, any hints !!

Any feedback about real customer experience? What are the real speeds experienced?

Maggie: Why haven't Sprint and Verizon upgraded their network to EVDO REV B,first , before going to Wimax or LTE ?

Thx
